While collecting information for writing articles on Hindi songs in Bangla films, I have often come across discussions and references about the beauty and the elegance of Suchitra Sen, Supriya Devi, Sandhya Roy and Sabitri Chatterjee in the golden period of Bangla film industry. In fact, during this period, all the four actresses ‘cornered’ a majority of Bangla films. In a way, they had partly contributed to the revival of Bangla film industry after a slump arising out of the partition of Bengal in 1947.

Raaja Harishchandra(1952) was produced by C.M.Trivedi and directed by Raman B Desai for Trivedi productions. The movie had Prem Adeeb and Sumitra Devi in lead roles, playing Raaja Harishchandra and his wife Taramati respectively. The movie also had Pravin Kumar, Gope, Moni Chatterji etc. in it.

Do you remember which story you liked the most in your childhood ? When we were in school, we read lot of stories. Stories from Mythology, History, Magic, Mystery, Birbal, Tenaliram, Tarzan etc etc. We liked some stories, and did not like others. To me, barring Alladin, Alibaba and Sindbad, all stories of Arabian Nights were same. Stories from Vedas were hard to remember due to difficult names like Jamadagni, Jaratkaru or Yadnyawalkya etc. My favourite story was that of Alladin, which I would read repeatedly at frequent intervals.
