Today 16th November 2022 is the one hundred and fifth birth anniversary of Chitragupt Shrivastava (born on 16.11.1917 and passed away on 14.01.1991). He is better known by his name Chitragupt.

Music director Chitragupt had a long journey in Hindi Film Music since 1946 to 1988 (as per information available). However some sources mentions ‘Chandaal-1998’ as his last film where he is credited with one song. This needs to be checked and authenticated. The titles of this movie don’t mention his name as a music director. (His sons Anand-Milind composed music for this movie.).

In his long career music director Chitragupt has composed many memorable and unforgettable songs and they will always be cherished by music lovers. His name will remain in the annals of Hindi Films Music. He was also the pioneer of the music for ‘Bhojpuri films’ ever since the first ‘Bhojpuri’ film was produced. He has composed timeless melodies in many ‘Bhojpuri’ films. He has collaborated with many mainstream singers from Hindi film music in Bhojpuri films too. And we already have some of these songs posted on the blog. Some of them, from the movies in the ‘eighties’ are yet to be presented on the blog. Today we pay our tributes to Chitragupt ji and remember this talented yet ‘underrated’ music director on this blog on his birth anniversary.

Today we are going to enjoy a song from a ‘Bhojpuri’ movie of ‘1986’.

In Hindi film music, music director Chitragupt has collaborated with singer Kishore Kumar and their collaboration have given us some very very special everlasting songs. Many of them are my favorites. I wish many more should have been there from this un-usual ‘combination’.

Today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar and this song will mark the 13th century of Kishore Kumar songs on the blog. We still have many Kishore Kumar songs to be covered on the blog. I hope we will be able to see all of them on the blog in our life-time.

Much has already been written about Kishore Kumar – the person and Kishore Kumar – the singer, so I am not going to repeat same here again. But, yes, I have something to write on my journey with Kishore Kumar songs at different stages of my life which I am leaving for another post which I would like to present later on the blog.

Similarly, I am not going into the many other details about Chitragupt ji here today in this article. His music has a ‘special place’ in my heart and I would certainly like to put my thoughts in an article here surely in the future.

So what special for today?

Today’s special is this composition by Chitragupt ji which all of us are going to enjoy. And we are going to enjoy the singing of none other than Kishore Kumar of this song.
(I am not aware if this is going to be the first Kishore Kumar song in Bhojpuri on the blog).
Today’s song is from the movie ‘Ganga Ke Teere Teere-1986’.

It was directed by Rajpati for ‘Shri Jagannath ji Pictures. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 23.04.1986.

“Ganga Ke Teere Teere” was produced by Hari Kishan Madhavdas Masand and Kishan Uttamchand Lalwani.

It had Dr. Shreeram Lagoo, Madhu Malini, Ram Singh, Girja Mitra, Satyen Kappu and Bharat Kapoor.

They were supported by Yunus Parvez, Chand Usmani, Dulari, Shubha Khote, Vandana Shastri, Rajrani, Jai Pahalwan, Ratna, Master Mani, Mishra, Pande, Master Vinit Jha, and Shabana (Banarasi).

Dilip Sinha, Shekhar Purohit, T.P. Ojha, Brajesh Tiwari and Jayshree T made guest appearance in this movie.
Story of this movie was written by Rajpati. Editing of this movie was done by S.R. Sawant.

Rajpati also wrote the lyrics for the songs in this movie.

Music of this movie was composed by Chitragupt.

Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Usha Mangeshkar, and Udit Narayan had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

As mentioned above today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar and it is lip synced on screen by Ram Singh (I guess). Also seen in the picturisation of this song is Madhu Malini and many others.

This song is has a village set up where people seem to be gathered for some village fair (?).

I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the movie and its songs.

Let us now enjoy this entertaining song …

With today’s song this movie ‘Ganga Ke Teere Teere-1986’ makes its debut on the blog .

chaunkal sagri re bajariya
logwaa hathhwaa masle naa

lachkela dehiya jaise
baans ke gayiniya

jab acharwaa phisle naa

hamra jiyara machle naa

ang ang tohri goriya
saanche mein dhalalbaa
ang ang tohri goriya
saanche mein dhalalbaa
jitna bhi rangwaa holaa
tohre mein milalbaa baba

tohraa ke rach ke bidhnaa
Badaa pachhtaayil
tohraa ke rach ke bidhnaa
Badaa pachhtaayil
kaahe ke qayaamat

nas nas chadhe laa zaheriyaa
manwaa bas mein rahle naa

nas nas chadhe laa zaheriyaa
manwaa bas mein rehle naa
tohri lachkela kamariya
hamra jiyara machle naa
ho tohri lachkela kamariya
hamra jiyara machle naa aa
haan
