Kaisa jaadoo daalaa re balmaa ne jaane

I thought that Saira Bano was the first “bold” heroine who had appeared in a bathroom song in a Bollywood movie. I was wrong. She was beaten in it by another actress by more than a decade.
And this actress is quite an unlikely name for a bathroom song. It is Meena Kumari, no less.
This movie is “Footpath” (1953) . Meena Kumari those days was not the tragedy queen that she subsequently became. She played happy go lucky roles, and as seen in this movie, she would appear in a shower scene too, if needed.
Here is this song where Meena Kumari takes off her clothes and takes shower. And she sings this song “kaisa jaadu daala re”. It is such a pleasant sight to see a Bollywood heroine bathing in the comfort of home rather than taking a plunge in the village river.
The voice sound somewhat like Geeta Dutt, but it is Asha Bhonsle trying to sing like Geeta Dutt. Asha Bhonsle, who was a struggler and was looking for her own identity was influenced by Geeta Dutt’s singing style those days.
There were two lyricists in this movie, viz Majrooh Sultanpuri and Sardar Jafry. I have no idea who wrote this song, so for the time being, I will credit Majrooh Sultanuri as the lyricist.
Khayyam, who used to compose music under the name of Sharma ji
is the music director.
This song is a nice find, undoubtedly.
