“Ek Saal” (1957) is a movie starring Ashok Kumar and Madhubala. This song has some nice songs in it as was usually the case with most movies, and more so with movies that had music composed by Ravi. I have already discussed four great songs fro this movie including the all time classic Sab kuchh luta ke hosh mein aaye to kyaa kiyaa.
Here is a song on the farmaish of Mrs Roos Ramdin. This song apparently get played no less than three times in the movie. The video link has these three parts combined. As one can notice, part 1 is a subset of part 2 in the sense that the lyrics of part 1 are there in part 2. In addition, part 2 has some more lines, both at the beginning as well as at the end.
The picturisation shows that the song is a movie opening song as well as a rail song in the sense, because much of the picturisation takes place on a dark railway station with a train standing on it, and Ashok Kumar looking on, watching helplessly as time is passing him by.
The lyrics are quite philosophical and right up my alley. The lyrics state that time and tide wait for none, so whatever one wants to do in his life must be done right away, as it may be too late in the future.
The song is sung by Rafi. Prem Dhawan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ravi.

Atul, “gardoon” or “gardon” (with the “n” quite nasal) is right.
