This article is the 100th song post in the blog.
This song, one of the many songs that talk of eternity by using the word “sau saal”, “sau baar” etc has become immortal. The lyrics, the music, the singing, everything is so picture perfect that this song is an evergreen song, liked by people of all generations.
As far as this blog is concerned, the word “sau” or hundred has another significance. It is the 100th song of this blog. Yes, with this song, this blog completes its first century of evergreen Bollywood songs.
I hope this is just the beginning and I will be able to post many more such songs. There are so many great songs to choose from, and I can remain busy for many years to come.
On this occasion, I thank all those known and unknown visitors of this blog, whose visits and comments have encouraged me to sustain my labour of love for more than two months. Hopefully this association will continue for a long time to come, like what the lyrics of this song say.
Song- Sau saal pahle mujhe tumse pyaar tha (Jab pyaar kisise hota hai) ( 1961) Singers- Rafi, Lata, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD- Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
Sau saal pehle mujhe tumse pyaar tha
Mujhe tumse pyaar tha, aaj bhi hai
Aur kal bhi rahega
Sadiyon se tujhse milne jiya beqaraar tha
Jiya beqaraar tha, aaj bhi hai
Aur kal bhi rahega
Sau saal pehle mujhe tumse pyaar tha
Mujhe tumse pyaar tha, aaj bhi hai
Aur kal bhi rahega
Tum rootha na karo meri jaan
Meri jaan mer jaan nikal jaati hai
Tum hansti rehti ho
To ek bijli si chamak jaati hai
Tum rootha na karo meri jaan
Meri jaan mer jaan nikal jaati hai
Tum hansti rehti ho
To ek bijli si chamak jaati hai
Mujhe jeete jee o dilbar, tera intezaar tha
Tera intezaar tha, aaj bhi hai
Aur kal bhi rahega
Sadiyon se tujhse milne jiya beqaraar tha
Jiya beqaraar tha, aaj bhi hai
Aur kal bhi rahega
Is dil ke taaron mein
Madhur jhankar tumhi se hai
Aur yeh haseen jalwa
Yeh mast bahaar tumhi se hai
Is dil ke taaron mein
Madhur jhankar tumhi se hai
Aur yeh haseen jalwa
Yeh mast bahaar tumhi se hai
Dil ko yeh mera sanam tera talabgaar tha
Tera talabgaar tha, aaj bhi hai
Aur kal bhi rahega
Sau saal pehle mujhe tumse pyaar tha
Mujhe tumse pyaar tha, aaj bhi hai
Aur kal bhi rahega
In pyaar ki raahon mein kaho to ab khud ko mita doon main
o chaandi see qadmon mein dhadakte dil ko bichha doon main
In pyaar ki raahon mein kaho to ab khud ko mita doon main
o chaandi see qadmon mein dhadakte dil ko bichha doon main
tujhe mere jeevan par sada ikhtiyaar thaa
aaj bhi hai aur aur kal bhii rahegaa
Sau saal pehle mujhe tumse pyaar tha
Mujhe tumse pyaar tha, aaj bhi hai
Aur kal bhi rahega

Though started to connect to your blog since 6 months, my congratulations and best wishes for our future for the century.
This was the first movie of Nasir Hussain (Present Amir Khan’s uncle) and Shanker Jaikishen made an instant hit of the movie due to the songs. All of them were fantastic.
This song was on every lip in the late fifties. I still remember singing this song Sau saal pehele muje tumse pyaar tha aaj bhi hai aur kaal bhi rahega to a gilr in my college Diana De Sauoza, who just understood bit of hindi. Very innocently she turned towards ma an said ” How do you know” I just burst laughing and still remember the incident and will never forget it.
I really like the last stanza very much which is not in the record.

Lovely song, I get a feeling every song Dev Anand was picturised in was a good one :). By the way, I have heard a tamil song from 1960 with the same tune. The song is Manam Ennum Medai from the movie Vallavanukku Vallavan and sung by T M Sounderrajan and P Susheela. The music director was Veda. Now who copied from who? I am not sure (The hindi movie seems to have released in 1961 and the tamil film was released in the year 1960).
