Arre bhai nikal ke aa ghar se

Posted on: October 17, 2008

Kishore Kumar as an actor-cum Singer had started to figure in movies in 1950s. In many movies, he was even the hero.

New Delhi (1956) was one such movie. One thing that I epecially find appealing is the fact that one gets to see about Delhi of 1950s in this movie, and that Delhi is so different from the present day Delhi that we know.

This movie had some great songs. Here is a fun song from this movie. It is one of the first such fun songs that Kishore Kumar sang in his career, and it is such a pleasure to listen to even today.

Song- Arre bhai nikal ke aa ghar se (New Delhi ) (1956) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD- Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

are bhai nikal ke aa ghar se!
are bhai nikal ke aa ghar se!

are bhai nikal ke aa ghar se, aa ghar se
are bhai nikal ke aa ghar se, aa ghar se
duniyaa ki raunak dekh phir se dekh le phir se
duniyaa ki raunak dekh phir se dekh le phir se
hoy! are bhai nikal ke aa ghar se, aa ghar se
are bhai nikal ke aa ghar se, aa ghar se

kem ungheche bhai Ghanshyaam jee, o
kem ungheche bhai Ghanshyaam jee,
Oo
duniyaa badal gayi pyaare, aage nikal gayi pyaare
arre duniyaa badal gayi pyaare, aage nikal gayi pyaare
andhe kuen mein chupke kyun baithaa huaa hai man maare
are bhai nikal ke aa ghar se, aa ghar se
duniyaa ki raunaq dekh phir se dekh phir se
are bhai nikal ke aa ghar se, aa ghar se

tulaa bhiti hi kasli vaat te, re
tulaa bhiti hi kasli vaat te,
Oo
paani ko, tel ko chhodaa, bijli ki rail ko chhodaa
arre paani ko, tel ko chhodaa, bijli ki rail ko chhodaa
kal chaand aur taaron mein pahunchegaa atomi ghodaa
are bhai, are bhai
are bhai nikal ke aa ghar se, aa ghar se
duniyaa ki raunak dekh phir se dekh le phir se
are bhai nikal ke aa ghar se aa ghar se…

kaino bhaaben okaaran Banshi baabu re
kaino bhaaben okaaran Banshi baabu
Oo
kal jo thaa kal rahaa hogaa, aage ki soch kyaa hogaa
arre kal jo thaa kal rahaa hogaa, aage ki soch kyaa hogaa
Tootii puraani Daphali pe, tu kal ka marsiya mat gaa
are bhai nikal ke aa ghar se, aa ghar se
are bhai nikal ke aa ghar se, aa ghar se
duniyaa ki raunaq dekh phir se dekh phir se
duniyaa ki raunaq dekh phir se dekh phir se
are bhai nikal ke aa ghar se, aa ghar se
are bhai nikal ke aa ghar se, aa ghar se

I see that you posted this song more than a year ago.
I came across it only today – and what an absolutely fantastic song it is !!!
Though I keep saying “Rafi saab” all the time :-), I really like Kishore also a lot. Actually I like and respect almost all singers – everybody has good songs. Even those songs that one does not like much usually have had a lot of effort put into them – that one has to appreciate.

Kishore Kumar, despite singing some nice songs for the first two decades of his career was just a fringe player as a singer. It was in late 1960s that he got his big break and he capitalised on it. Those days, when the taste of the public suddenly underwent a paradigm shift is not yet fully analysed and written about. I hope someone does it some day.

They are all having so much fun–I’d love to join in. It’s the best way to live–sing and make merry.
