Ye dil aur unki nigaahon ke saaye

Jaidev served as assistants to leading music directors of his era for most of his career. On a few occasions that he got to compose music as an independent music director, he did a very good job. But it takes a lot more than just the ability to compose great music. Jaidev composed some fantastic music, but his name would not sell as a music director, so he repaetedly had to go back to his job as assistants to leading music directors viz S D Burman, Madan Mohan etc.
But the few movies where he got to work as an independent music director are enough to establish his credentials as a quality music director. The movie “Prem Parbat”, which was released in 1973,is known today only for the music of Jaidev. The one song from this movie that has become immortal was the song that went ” ye dil aur unki nagaahon ke saaye”. Wonderfully written by Jaan Nissar Akhtar and superbly sung by Lata Mangeshkar, this composition was perhaps the greatest composition by Jaidev in my opinion, though he had composed some superb songs in “Hum dono” in the past, and he would compose the music of movies like “Gharonda” and “Gaman” too in future.
Here is this absolutely wonderful song from “Prem Parbat” that is sure to enthrall its listeners.
Song- Ye dil aur unki nigaahon ke saaye (Prem Parbat) (1973) Singer- Lata, Lyrics- Jaan Nissar Akhtar, MD-Jaidev
Lyrics
hmmm hmmm
ye pal pal ujaale, ye pal pal andhere
ye pal pal ujaale, ye pal pal andhere
bahut thande thande, hain raahon ke saaye
bahut thande thande, hain raahon ke saaye
ye dil aur unki nigaahon ke saaye
mujhe gher lete, hain baahon ke saaye
mujhe gher lete, hain baahon ke saaye
lalalala
dhadakte hain dil kitni, aazaadiyon se
dhadakte hain dil kitni, aazaadiyon se
bahut milte julte, hain in waadiyon se
bahut milte julte, hain in waadiyon se
muhabbat ki rangeen panaahon ke saaye
muhabbat ki rangeen panaahon ke saaye
ye dil aur unki nigaahon ke saaye
mujhe gher lete, hain baahon ke saaye
mujhe gher lete, hain baahon ke saaye
lalala hmm hmm laalala

I share both of your views. I must have been 6-7 when heard this song first time on radio, and enthralled from then on.
Also never seen the VCD in the market. If I get the VCD I can buy the film straight away just for the song, worth it.

Fantastic song, this is.
The first time I heard this song (way back in the 70s), I fell totally in love with it. I heard it on Vividh Bharati – and I distinctly remember the combo being Lata / Jaan Nissar Akhtar / Jaidev / Prem Parbat.
Since then, this has been imprinted in my mind. A few months ago (when we were discussing this on CF), I remember mentioning Jaan Nissar Akhtar and then correcting myself when I checked on earthmusic.net (which I use as my Bible for info on songs). There it says Padma Sachdev.
Now that you mention J N Akhtar (I don’t know your source), I am also getting convinced that maybe the earthmusic source is wrong ?
Some more research is required.
Anyway, this is really an amazingly soft and sweet song. Very hummable.
