Ek haseena thi ek deewaana thha

“Karz” of 1980 was a musical blockbuster. Though many fans were not aware about it, but most tunes in that movie were lifted from western tunes, including the most popular ” meri umar ke nauzawaanon”. Of course, all that plagiarism did not affect the popularity of Bollywood songs of this , or any other movies, in any ways.
Now we find people plagiarise the already plagiarised movies. The movie Karz, along with its songs has been remade, hoping to encash on the popularity of the “original”.
The promotional video of this new Himmesh Reshamiya movie plays the theme tune ” ik haseena thi”. Instead of feeling impressed with Reshamiya’s song, it makes me yearn for the Kishore Kumar’s song. Every time I listen to that promo, the same thing happens, and I am reminded of the Kishore Kumar song.
So, here is this theme tune of Karz, sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle.
Incidentally, I read one interesting article which suggested that the remakers of “Karz” into “karzz” were fooled into thinking that they were making the remake of a hit movie. “Karz” songs may have been popular, but the movie itself had flopped. It was only in the later years that the movie has been regarded as a hit movie thanks to its TV screenings, sales of VCDs/DVDs etc. But the reality is, it was a flop movie when it was first released.
And I am not surprised if the remixed version of it meets the same fate.
Well, this post is about the song, so here is the song, which was always a popular song, and remains so to this day.
Song- Ek haseena thi ek deewana tha (Karz ) (1980) Singer-Kishore Kumar,Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics- Anand Bakshi, MD- Laxmikant Pyarelal
Lyrics
ik haseenaa thi, ik deewaanaa thaa
kyaa umar, kyaa samaa, kyaa zamaanaa thaa
ik haseenaa thi, ik deewaanaa thaa
kyaa umar, kyaa samaa, kyaa zamaanaa thaa
ek din wo mile, roz milne lage
ek din wo mile, roz milne lage
phir mohabbat huyi, bas qayaamat huyi
kho gaye tum kahaan, sun ke ye daastaan
log hairaan hain, kyon ki anjaan hain
ishq ki wo gali, baat jiski chali
us gali mein mera aanaa, jaanaa tha
ik haseenaa thi, ik deewaanaa thaa
kyaa umar thi, kyaa samaa tha , kyaa zamaanaa tha
ik haseenaa thi, ik deewaanaa thaa …
us haseen ne kahaa,
mar gayaa, wo jawaan
suno jaan-e-wafaa
ye falaq ye zameen, tere bin kuchh nahin
tujhpe marti hoon main, pyaar karti hoon main
baat kuchh aur thi, wo nazar chor thi
uske dil mein chhupi, chaahat aur garzi thi
pyaar kaa, to faqat, ik bahaanaa thaa
ik haseenaa thi, ik deewaanaa thaa
kyaa umar thi, kyaa samaa thi , kyaa zamaanaa thaa
ik haseenaa thi, ik deewaanaa thaa …
bewafaa yaar ne, apne mahboob se
aisaa dhokhaa kiyaa
– dhokhaa, dhokhaa, dhokhaa, dhokhaa –
aisaa dhokhaa kiyaa,
aisaa dhokhaa kiyaa,zahar usko diyaa
mar gayaa, wo jawaan
mar gayaa, wo jawaan
ab suno daastaan
janm le ke kahin, phir wo pahunchaa wahin
shaql anjaan ki, aql hairaan ki
saamnaa jab huaa, saamnaa jab huaa, phir wahi sab huaa
uspe ye qarz thaa, uskaa ye farz thaa
farz ko, qarz apnaa, chukaanaa thaa
ik haseenaa thi, ik deewaanaa thaa …

Plagiarising plagiarised movies 🙂
Good one, Atul.
Indeed, when I was in India recently, I saw the promo and immediately wanted to shut it out and listen to the original.
