Aadha hai chandrma raat aadhi

I have mentioned in a few previous songs picturised on Sandhya that she rarely got an “easy” song. Unlike other leading ladies who mostly needed to just lip sync or act coy, Sandhya was called upon to perform some unbelievable tasks in the songs, in addition to singing.
In this song, it is Mahipal who is singing and later Sandhya joins him, but boy, what Sandhya is doing apart from singing in this song is just superhuman. She is dancing, and it is not an easy dance. She is dancing while balancing several urns kept one over the other delicately balanced on her head. It is an amazing performance of dancing, while balancing so many urns on her head for such long period of time. Just thinking about it boggles my mind.
Incidentally, Navrang was the movie where Mahendra Kapoor made his debut as a playback singer. This was his first song,and it became quite popular. Asha Bhonsle was the female singer. Bharat Vyas was the lyricist, and the versatile C Ramchandra composed the music.

Mahendar Kapoor was very proud of the fact that he was a student of Rafi. If I remember correctly, he said only student of Rafi, but I would have to ask again to confirm this. His voice was very much like Rafi’s.

Superb song !!!
All the songs in this movie are very good.
And beautifully picturised too.
I remember this song used to figure on Chitrahaar a lot – as the last song of the program. Chitrahaar (Chhaya Geet) would be from 8.00 – 8.30. This song would start at around 8.23..but there would be no time for another song after this. 🙂

Songs pictured on Sandhya were there to showcase her dancing rather than the music, but it just so happens that most of the songs are special in their own right. This is a beautiful song.

Really nice song and it is really great of Atul to put in the efforts to compile the lyrics painstakingly of so many songs and putting them up on the net for everybody to access.

PS: I would like to point out a small correction to the lyrics of Aadha Hai Chandrama in the second para “Piya Aadhi pyar ki bhasha”
The line “aadha hai chandrama” needs to be added after the line
“aadhi palkon ki bhi hai barsaat aadhi”.

This has always been one of my favorite songs, because the lyrics are so good. Thanks for including this in your blog.
There are some other good songs in this movie, including “Tu chhupi hai kahan …”, “Shyamal shyamal baran ….”, “Yeh maati sabhiki kahani kahegi …”, and a song with a rainbow of colors, “Are jaare hat natkhat na ….” In one of the songs, it is a contest between the two, to come up with words to match the notes, I just don’t remember which song!
