Kaanton se kheench ke… aaj phir jeene ki tamanna hai

“Guide” is a movie whose music was voted as containing the best music among all Bollywood movies, when an Indian magazine polled the industry insiders ( viz singers, lyricists and music directors). Coming from those who themselves create music for Bollywood movies, this was high praise indeed.
I have already posted two songs from this movie, but obviously there are more songs from this movie that need to be posted.
Here is another wonderful song from “Guide” that goes “kaanton se kheench ke ye aanchal, chod ke bandhan baandhi paayal”. This song is sung with gutso by Lata and Shailendra has shown great creativity in penning this song. This is a favourite song of many other lyricists as well, viz Hasrat Jaipuri, who played this song in his “Vishesh” jaimala programme.
The music was composed by S D Burman and this song had finished 17th in Binaca geetmala finals of 1966.

Song-Kaanton se kheench ke….aaj phir jeene ki tamanna hai (Guide) (1965) Singer-Lata, MD-Shailendra, MD-S D Burman
Lyrics
ho kaanton se kheench ke ye aanchal
tod ke bandhan baandhi paayal
ho koyi na roko dil ki udaan ko
dil wo chalaa aa aa aa aa aa aa
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai
apne hi bas mein nahin main
dil hai kahin to hoon kahin main
ho apne hi bas mein nahin main
dil hai kahin to hoon kahin main
ho jaane kya paake
meri zindagi ne hans kar kaha
aa aa
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai
main hoon gubaar yaa toofaan hoon
koyi bataaye main kahaan hoon
ho main hoon gubaar yaa toofaan hoon
koyi bataaye main kahaan hoon
ho dar hai safar mein kahin kho na jaaun main
rastaa nayaa a a aa aa aa aa
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai
kal ke andheron se nikal ke
dekhaa hai aankhen malte malte
ho kal ke andheron se nikal ke
dekhaa hai aankhen malte malte
ho phool hi phool zindagi bahaar hai
tay kar liyaa a a aa aa aa aa
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai
aaj phir jeene ki tamannaa hai
aaj phir marne kaa iraadaa hai

I love this song.
I always associate this song with a green saree.
How many songs have you seen with heroine in a green saree ? Not many, I would say.
SD Burman’s music was just sooooo good.

What a collosal song. This is a coming together of giants. SD, anand brothers, waheeda. Waheeda throwing the pot from the moving truck and Lata’s voice is a high point of indian cinema. Wish more actors have a few moments like this one.
Music posts are usually inane. I was searching for two sings – khuda kair kare and dil who chala oo oo ooh oo and landed on this webpage.

Dear friends,
This is a divine song beautifully written by legendary lyricist Shailandra ji and Music director SD Burmanji . I consider it as a song full of music-mazic , mood, divine power, hope, love and affection. Film Industry has so far not been blessed with such a song which can match with it. It is rally matchless. We salute the whole team directly or indirectly behind the theme, lyric and composition.

This is a typical combi pack of beautiful lyrics, beautiful voice, beautiful choreography & beauty in the form of Waheeda. Thats for sure.
But the beauty of the lyrics also lies in the truth it conveys regarding the person who comes out from “Dark Ages” into “Bright Sunny Days”.
A person who has lost all hope for a good and joyous life coming out of the darkness with a new renewed hope & wish for a good life.
Its not only this song/sequence .. but is the truth in quite a few of our lives… How after great lengthy suffering one feels when one sees a light at the end of the tunnel.
Simply a masterpiece where everything that is best and right seem to have converged.

This song is one of those rare cases where everything is perfect – the song situation, exceptional lyric, magical voice, breathtaking picturization, mind-blowing music and pure joy of the dance! It has been #1 in my list of favorite songs for a long time. Whether you see it as part of the movie or as a stand alone, this song brings such great sense of happiness, optimism and energy to the viewer/listener! What a song……………
