“Jaanwar” had many wonderful songs, which are very popular and well known even today.
Considering that it was a Shammi Kapoor movie, it is only to be expected that Rafi had sung most of the songs, with a few duets involving a female voice too.
But there was a solo female song too. And it was sung by Suman Kalyanpur. The song is “mere sang gaa gungunaa”. Hasrat Jaipuri was the lyricist and Shankar Jaikishan had composed the music.
This was a dance song performed on the satge by Rajshree and others in the movie. So here is this semi classical song from “Jaanwar”.

Lyrics
aaa aaa aaa
Mere sang gaa gungunaa
koyi geet suhaana
Mere sang gaa gungunaa
koyi geet suhaana
Mere sang gaa gungunaa
Main bhi tumhaari dil bhi tumhaara
Main bhi tumhaari
Main bhi tumhaari dil bhi tumhaara
sang saath jug jug se hamaara
sang saath jug jug se hamaara
tere hi kadmon me sar mera
Mere sang gaa gungunaa
koyi geet suhaana
Mere sang gaa gungunaa
koyi geet suhaana
Mere sang gaa gungunaa
Sheesha e dil mein teri sooratiya
sheesha e dil mein
Sheesha e dil mein teri sooratiya
dekhoon raat din teri mooratiya
dekhoon raat din teri mooratiya
Tu mere pyaar ka devta
Mere sang gaa gungunaa
koyi geet suhaana
Mere sang gaa gungunaa
koyi geet suhaana
Mere sang gaa gungunaa
Pahli nazar mein apna banaaya
pahli nazar me
Pahli nazar mein apna banaaya
tumne pyaar se jeena sikhaaya
tumne pyaar se jeena sikhaaya
O sanam ab tera shukriyaa
Mere sang gaa gungunaa
koyi geet suhaana
Mere sang gaa gungunaa
koyi geet suhaana
Mere sang gaa

I had almost forgotten this song until I saw the header for this song, and I found myself humming it, and I am amazed that I could remember the tune after all these years! I haven’t heard it even once in all these intervening years, so it is a testimony to the quality of the song.
Just as in parties, where a certain protocol is observed in that all the guests sit like statues, in all stage songs and dances, the hero is invariably in the front row if the heroine is performing, and vice versa. Do they never buy or get seats in the back rows, even by accident?
