Ye raat ye fizaayen phir aayen ya naa aayen
Posted on: February 6, 2009
When we talk about old evergreen classics, most of the the time we are talking about the creations of big name music directors who have become legends by now. But there are quite a few evergreen classic songs that are the creations of less known music directors.
For instance, how many people have heard of a music director called S Madan ? Very few have, but this song that he has created should make us sit up and take notice.
This song is “Ye raat ye fizaayen phir aayen ya na aayen” from a movie called “Batwaara” (1961). Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist and the song is sung wonderfully well by Asha Bhonsle and Rafi. Wow ! I listened to this song for the first time yesterday and loved it. Both Asha Bhonsle and Rafi sound amazing in this song.
The movie may have been forgotten, but this song deserves to be known to every fan of quality songs.

This Batwaara number is in two parts. The video on this web-page relates to one part (ye raat ye fizaayen, phir aaye ya na aayen / aao shama jalaake, ham aaj milke gaayen), and the audio to the other (ye raat ye fizaayen, phir aaye ya na aayen / aao shama bujha ke, ham aaj dil jalaayen). The lyrics in the article relate to the former only.

An ever evergreen melodious song sung by Rafi Sahib and Aashataai from a forgotten film Batwara 1961 . The name of the music composer S Madan is unheard . Hats off to this unknown , unheard , unsung hero .Everyone would like to hum ( if not sing ) this beautiful composition .

There is a doubt. The words in the mukhda here are “Aao shama jalake hum aaj milke gaayeN”. But wherever I searched, I found “Aao shama bujhake, hum aaj dil jalaayeN”. I checked the viedo of the movie to see if the song has appeared twice, but it is not so! The song given here has the words same as in the lyrics given i here. Can you throw some light?

The original song recorded and released had Yeh raat yeh fizayen phir aayen ya na aayen aao shama bujhake hum aaj dil jalaye. The picturisation was also done with these original lyrics. Later, due to some objections the lyrics were altered and the song was re-recorded with the new lyrics -which are given on this blog. But fresh shoot was not done and hence you would notice a mismatch in the lip sync on these portions of the song.
