Jab tumhi chale pardes
Posted on: February 22, 2009
It is one of the earliest “tonga” songs in Bollywood movies. But this song is much more significant than just that. “Rattan” was a movie that steered Bollywood music away from the influence of classical music. It was the first movie whose music drew on folk music.
And the effect was magical. The music of Naushad took the nation by storm. S D Burman recalled that he noticed his cook, while cooking, was singing this song. S D Burman, then decided to follow suit and began to incorporate folk music in his compositions too.
That way, this song turned out to be extremely influential in shaping the course of Bollywood movie music.
This song was sung by Karan Deewan, who was also the actor singing it on screen. D N Madhok was the lyricist. This song and this music catapulted Naushad to fame.

jab tum hi chale pardes lagaa kar thes
o preetam pyaaraa
duniyaa mein kaun hamaaraa
jab tum hi chale pardes lagaa kar thes

jab baadal ghir ghir aayenge
beete din yaad dilaayenge
jab baadal ghir ghir aayenge

phir tum hi kaho kit jaaye naseeb hamaaraa
duniyaa mein kaun hamaaraa
phir tum hi kaho kit jaaye naseeb hamaaraa
duniyaa mein kaun hamaaraa
jab tum hi chale parades lagaa kar thes

aankhon se paani bahtaa hai
dil ro ro kar ye kahtaa hai

dil ro ro kar ye kahtaa hai
jab tum hi ne saajan hamse kiyaa kinaaraa

jab tum hi ne saajan hamse kiyaa kinaaraa

jab tum hi chale pardes lagaa kar thes

duniyaa mein kaun hamaaraa
jab tum hi chale pardes lagaa kar thes
o preetam pyaaraa
duniyaa mein kaun hamaaraa
