Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Ankhiyaan mila ke jiyaa bharmaa ke chale nahin jaana

Posted on: February 26, 2009

This song is a landmark song from a landmark movie. “Rattan” (1944) was the first movie that drew upon folk music for its songs. And this particular song “ankhiyan mila ke” could well be described as the first such song sung by a female singer.

This foot tapping number is sung by Zohrabai Ambalewali. This song must have made her a star in those days when there was no star system. What a lovely song. And what nice music ! With the music of this movie, Naushad rewrore the rules of playback music in Bollywood movies.

The song was picturised on Swarnlata and Karan Deewan. And it was a “Tonga” song.

ankhiyaan milaake jiyaa bharmaa ke
chale nahin jaana,

chale nahin jaana,

ho chale nahin jaana

jaaoge jaane naa doongi main rastaa rok loongi
jaaoge jaane naa doongi main rastaa rok loongi
ho sainya ke painyyaa pad jaaungi roke kahungi
ho sainya ke painyyaa pad jaaungi roke kahungi
ankhiyaan milaake jiyaa bharmaa ke
chale nahin jaana,
ho chale nahin jaana
ho chale nahin jaana

Aahon ke badle aahen lena jee daga na denaa
Aahon ke badle aahen lena jee daga na denaa
haan nain mare na roye roye dil ye kahe na
haan nain mare na roye roye dil ye kahe na
ankhiyaan milaake jiyaa bharmaa ke
chale nahin jaana,
ho chale nahin jaana
ho chale nahin jaana

jaane ka naam na lo raja ji dil baitha jaaye
jaane ka naam na lo raja ji dil baitha jaaye
haan dekho ji dekho dukhi dil ki pare na haay
haan dekho ji dekho dukhi dil ki pare na haay
ankhiyaan milaake jiyaa bharmaa ke
chale nahin jaana,
ho chale nahin jaana
ho chale nahin jaana

I like this song very much.
What I have found about these really old songs is that the singer’s voice stands out compared to everything else.
