Holi aayi re Kanhaai Holi aayi re

Bollywood movies have contributed some memorable Holi songs that have become must play songs during Holi years after years.
The first of these memorable Holi songs came up in 1957. The movie was “Mother India” and the song was “Holi aayi re Kanhaayi holi aayi re”. And interestingly enough, this first great Holi song of Bollywood proved Bollywood’s secular credentials just as much as the song “man tadpat hari dashan ko aaj” had famously proved. Shakeel Badayuni and Naushad were common in bothe the songs, whereas Shamshad Begum sings this song instead of Rafi in this movie.
Listening to this song, one can realise how important lyrics used to be in those days. The words penned by Shakeel Badayuni are so wonderful. It is obvious that Shakeel badayuni had spent quality time thinking up this song. And the music of this song is so nice and functional and gels so well with the song.

Atul ji,
Goodness, I just found this out today. And immediately played this video clip to confirm. In the first one minute of this clip, there is a solo dance by a performer whose head is covered with a light gray colored headcloth.
This performer is none other than Sitara Devi, her very last performance in Hindi films.

I could not find any mention of ” Matwaala Jiya Doley , Piya ” from this iconic movie ” Mother India ” in your blog. The song was beautifully sung by two all time greats , Rafi Sahib and Latajj . The video of the song is a treat to watch. Village folks , mainly farmers while reaping their crops are on merry making spree . Why not ? They are going to get dividends of their toil . Picturization is so nice , done in a perfect rural ambience .
Two pairs are shown in the video . One pair consists of Nargis and Raajkumar . As regards to the second pair , only Mukri is recognizable . I could not identify his female counterpart . Will you , or any of the blog reader ( s ) can tell who the female actress is .

Classic movie not only from story/acting/direction but also song/music. Naushad & Lata combo ..simply great.
Surprisingly “squarecutatul” you have only one song from this movie. Other songs from same movie that I like.
