In the long list of Rafi-Shammi Kapoor songs, this song must be the last such song. This is because this song is from “Jawaan Mohabbat” and this movie was released in 1971. This was the last movie in which Shammi Kapoor played the kind of role that had become his hallmark for the entire decade of 1960.
This song is in fact the title song of “Jawaan Mohabbat”, going by the lyrics, where an ageing and rapidly going out of shape Shammi Kapoor is seen with his usual mannerisms.
When I saw Shammi Kapoor in his subsequent obese avatar playing character roles, I could barely believe that he was the same person who wowed movie goers for more than one decade as a dashing hero. Yes, every good thing has to come to an end, but people would have been happier if he had managed to retain a semblance of his earlier figure. Looking at an overage Shammi, one felt betrayed and felt like the beloved Shammi Kapoor of yesteryears was replaced by a fat stranger.
Rant over, here is this lovely song from “Jawaan Mohabbat”. It is written by the usual team , viz written by viz Hasrat Jaipuri and composed by Shankar Jaikishan.
