When I was a kid, then my musical likings were very clear. I only liked new movie songs, preferably sung by Kishore Kumar. I disliked old songs, and I also disliked songs based on folk music, which I regarded as rustic music not worthy of a city slicker like me. 😉
I had heard this song “aaj mere man me sakhi” many a times, and this song failed to impress me on both counts- viz it was an old song and secondly, its lyrics were rustic in nature to my mind, what with words like “chhailwa”, “albelwa”, “sakhi”, “ambuwaa” etc.
And now, when this song continued to have the same lyrics, and which has now got much more older ( nearly 60 years old now), what does one find ? I have begun to like such songs.
Today I re discovered this song yet again. And this time I loved this song. The fact that I could watch the video and have more information on this song cerytainly helped me in appreciating this song. It is only now that I have come to know that this song is from “Aan”. Shakeel Badayuni had written this song and Naushad had composed the music. This song sung by Lata was picturised on Nimmi. And thi was a “horse” song according to my categorisation.

How nicely picturised ! Except for her stupid looking sword (there to imply that she’s someone big ) – in the beginning. Watch the “story” here unfold ! UN-describable !!!!
