Dhoondho dhoondho re saajna

on:This song “dhoondho dhoondho re saajna” was on my list of farmaishes for quite some time. I have no idea whether the hero actually searches for the “baala” that the heroine asks him to do in the song, but I was certainly searching for this “gaana”. And finally I managed to locate it yesterday.
So here is this song. Sung by Lata and picturised on Vyjyanti Mala and Dilip Kumar, this song from “Ganga Jamuna” (1961) was a bit before my times. And as I mentioned it in another post, this song was an “old” song as well as a “dehaati” (rustic) kind of songs for my liking.
But just as old things become fashionable as “heritage” things and rustic things become fashionable as ethnic things, by now I have become fond of old songs, whatever be the nature of these songs. How one’s perception changes with time !
This song was created by that old and reliable team of lyricist- MD viz Shakeel Badayuni and Naushad.

Lyrics
dhoondho dhoondho re saajnaa dhoondho re saajnaa
more kaan kaa baalaa,
ho dhoondho dhoondho re saajnaa dhoondho re saajnaa
more kaan kaa baalaa
moraa baalaa chandaa kaa jaise haalaa re
moraa baalaa chandaa kaa jaise haalaa re
jaamen laale laale haan,
jaamen laale laale motiyan ki latke maalaa
main soyi thi, apni atariyaa
daakuon ne daakaa daalaa
lut gayi nindiyaa, gir gayi bindiyaa
kaanon se khul gayaa baalaa, balam
moraa baalaa chandaa kaa jaise haalaa re
jaamen laale laale haan,
jaamen laale laale motiyan ki latke maalaa
ho dhoondho dhoondho re saajnaa dhoondho re saajnaa
more kaan kaa baalaa
baalaa moraa baalepan kaa
ho gayi re jaa ki chori
o chhailaa toraa manwaa mailaa
laagi najariyaa tori, balam
moraa baalaa chandaa kaa jaise haalaa re
jaamen laale laale haan,
jaamen laale laale motiyan ki latke maalaa
ho dhoondho dhoondho re saajnaa dhoondho re saajnaa
more kaan kaa baalaa
baalaa moraa sejiyaa pe gir gayaa
dhoondhe re more nainaa
naa jaanoon piyaa
kisne churaay liyaa
aaye na man ko chainaa
balam moraa baalaa chandaa kaa jaise haalaa re
jaamen laale laale haan,
jaamen laale laale motiyan ki latke maalaa
ho dhoondho dhoondho re saajnaa dhoondho re saajnaa
more kaan kaa baalaa

Lovely story, Lalitha. 🙂
And lovely song too.
I love almost all the songs of Ganga Jumna.
Excellent music by the maestro.
Atul, any songs of Ganga Jumna will be very much appreciated by me. Lata has about 4 superb songs in the movie herself.

This movie was a text book for all future hindi film story writers. It had all, drama, romance, action, dacoits, poor-rich angle, false charges of theft, brothers lost-found, lower caste-upper caste romance, train robbery, brothers pitted against each other on two sides of law and last but not the least the angry young man character. It was produced by Dilip kumar and starred his real brother as on screen younger brother.
Wonderful songs. At eight of them. One more lata solo(Not yet posted) is when Dilip Kumar is convicted and he is about to come back from jail. Vijayanthi mala with group of village girls singing and dancing. I cant remember the wordings.

Nicely composed sweet song . The male counterpart being given the responsibility of searching the baala ( ear ring ) . The female gives the full details of it to her lover and explains how it is dear to her . Will anyone of the knowledgeable blog reader tell what is the meaning of ‘ Chanda Sa Jaisa Haala ‘ ?

Thanks for the lovely song, Atul! I remember this song so well, especially because we used to have this cassette and listen to it in the car, and then we had gone and stayed in a hotel somewhere and came back home and I found my baala missing the next morning. I looked for it everywhere, we called the hotel, but we were out of luck. The following year, we were moving out and my husband was vacuuming the carpet after all the furniture had been moved, and guess what? The baala was found on the carpet after a whole year! We still think of that incident every time we listen to this song.
