“Zindagi aur Maut” (1965) is not a movie I am familiar with. But today I stumbled upon a song from this movie which is regarded quite highly by music lovers.
This song is “dil lagaakar ham ye samjhe zindagi kyaa cheez hai”. This song has two versions. Male version is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and female version is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Shakeel Badayuni is the lyricist and C Ramchandra is the music director.
This movie appears to be a low budget movie, seeing that it had Pradeep Kumar, an overaged and over the hill actor, as the hero. And the heroine was an up and coming actress who never got more than a bit role of a cabaret dancer/ vamp in subsequent movies. In fact, if any her name became synonymous with a wasted career. Yes, the heroine was none other than Faryal. When Rekha was wasting her career away in her initial years then movie critics would write that she was going the Faryal way.
But that was in the future. In this movie, Faryal was cast as the heroine, and she got to sing songs too, including the female version of this song sung by Asha Bhonsle, which is regarded just as highly as the Mahendra Kapoor version.In fact, O P Nayyar, her mentor, rated this song as his favourite Asha Bhonsle song, even though its music was not composed by him.

Faryal – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:-Faryal married her long-time boyfriend after quitting movies, and she is currently living in Israel.
