Mohe panghat pe Nandlal chhed gayo re

This song was almost edited out of the movie by its producer Vijay Bhatt who thought that this song, showing Hindu festival of Janmashtami had no place in this movie, but he was convinced by others that Akbar’s wife Jodhabai was a Hindu and so showing this song made sense.
And picturisation of this song had been a painstaking affair. Madhubala was not a trained dancer, and the producer K Asif wanted the best choreographer and Naushad suggested Kathak maestro Lacchu Maharaj. Lachchu Maharaj took five days to choreograph this song. One of his boys doubled up for Madhubala in the long shots. So it was one professional dancer and not Madhubala (that too a male dancer) who actually performed the dance.
The audio itself is outstanding. Shakeel Badayuni wrote the lyrics and Naushad composed the music. The song was sung by Lata.
