Jaane na nazar pahchaane jigar

Posted on: July 21, 2009

A boy and a girl, strangers to each other, who get wet in the rain, and are forced to stay the night together- this stuff leads to great romantic possibilities in Bollywood movies. It also leads to the possibilities of songs.

Here is a lovely song from “Aah” on this genre. Nargis runs away from her home and runs into Raj Kapoor. It rains heavily. They get one dilapidated room as shelter. The person offering them the room and lantern advised them to dry up their clothes as they had got wet. And this being a Bollywood movie, the hero plays chivalrous and asks the lady to take the room , the blanket and the lantern and lock the door from inside, so that she could dry her clothes and without feeling uninhibited. The hero himself shivers outside, and tries to fight off cold by going inside a drum. 😉

Since neither of them can sleep, they exchange a few words, and then this song commences.

This song is sung by Lata and Mukesh. It is a lovely song, penned by Hasrat Jaipuri and composed by Shankar Jaikishan. I had listened to thi song many a times, without watching the picturisation. Now that I have watched the picturisation, I can appreciate this song even more.

Of course, there are many who appreciate this song just as much. This song is easily one of the most memorable songs of all time.

Song-Jaane na nazar pahchaane jigar (Aah) (1953) Singers-Lata, Mukesh, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri , MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics

jaane na nazar pahchaane jigar
ye kaun jo dil par chhaayaa
meraa ang ang muskaayaa
meraa ang ang muskaayaa
jaane na nazar pahchaane jigar
ye kaun jo dil par chhaayaa
meraa ang ang muskaayaa
meraa ang ang muskaayaa

aawaaz ye kiski aati hai
jo chhed ke dil kho jaati hai
aawaaz ye kiski aati hai
jo chhed ke dil kho jaati hai
main sun ke jise sharmaa jaaun
hai kaun jo mujhmein samaayaa
meraa ang ang muskaayaa
meraa ang ang muskaayaa
jaane na nazar pahchaane jigar
ye kaun jo dil par chhaayaa
mujhe roz roz tadpaaya
mujhe roz roz tadpaaya

dhoondhenge use ham taaron mein
saawan ki thandi bahaaron mein
dhoondhenge use ham taaron mein
saawan ki thandi bahaaron mein
par ham bhi kisi se kam to nahin
kyun roop ko apne chhupaayaa
mujhe roz roz tadpaayaa
mujhe roz roz tadpaayaa

jaane na nazar pahchaane jigar
ye kaun jo dil par chhaayaa
meraa ang ang muskaayaa
meraa ang ang muskaayaa

bin dekhe jisko pyaar karoon
gar dekhoon us ko jaan bhi doon
bin dekhe jisko pyaar karoon
gar dekhoon us ko jaan bhi doon
ik baar kaho o jaadugar
ye kaun saa khel rachaayaa
meraa ang ang muskaayaa
meraa ang ang muskaayaa
jaane na nazar pahchaane jigar
ye kaun jo dil par chhaayaa
meraa ang ang muskaayaa
meraa ang ang muskaayaa

I have always liked this song. And this was way before I saw the picturisation.
After seeing the picturisation, my liking increased manifold. Cute picturisation.

In this video, only the song is shown. I have seen another video that has the prelude to the song too, where Raj Kapoor and Nargis are getting drenched in rain and seeking a shelter. That part is wonderful. I will search for that video if I can.
