Zindagi khwaab hai

I have posted some 30 songs in this blog that can be categorised as drunkard songs. But still there are many such drunkard songs that remain to be posted.
One of the most memorable such songs that I had not posted earlier is from “Jaagte Raho” (1959). This song is picturised on Motilal who plays a very convincing drunkard in this song, walking unsteadily on the pavements and road.
The song is sung beautifully by Mukesh, who incidentally was a relative of Motilal.
Shailendra has come up with this song that can only be described as an immortal song. What superb lyrics ! And salil Chaudhary’s music creates just the right ambience. This song is a great song to listen to and watch. Just fantastic.
The farmaish for this song had come from Mr M V Madhusudan, a new reader of the blog.

Song-Zindagi khwaab hai (Jaagte Raho) (1956) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Salil Chaudhary
Lyrics
rangi ko naarangi kahen,
bane doodh ko khoyaa
chalti ko gaadi kahen,
dekh Kabeeraa royaa
zindagi khwaab hai
khwaab mein jhooth kyaa
aur bhala sach hai kyaa
zindagi khwaab hai
khwaab mein jhooth kyaa
aur bhala sach hai kyaa
sab sach hai
zindagi khwaab hai
dil ne hamse jo kahaa
hamne waisa hi kiyaa
dil ne hamse jo kahaa
hamne waisa hi kiyaa
phir kabhi fursat se sochenge
bura thaa ya bhalaa
zindagi khwaab hai
khwaab mein jhooth kyaa
aur bhala sach hai kyaa
zindagi khwaab hai
ek katraa mai ka jab,
patthar se honthon par padaa
ek katraa mai ka jab,
patthar se honthon par padaa
uske seene mein bhi dil dhadkaa
ye usne bhi kahaa
kyaa
zindagi khwaab hai
khwaab mein jhooth kyaa
aur bhala sach hai kyaa
zindagi khwaab hai
ek pyaali bhar ke maine,
gham ke maare dil ko di
haay
ek pyaali bhar ke maine,
gham ke maare dil ko di
zahar ne maaraa zahar ko,
murde mein phir jaan aa gayi
zindagi khwaab hai
khwaab mein jhooth kyaa
aur bhala sach hai kyaa
zindagi khwaab hai
khwaab mein jhooth kyaa
aur bhala sach hai kyaa
sab sach hai

Just came across this Bengali song. I didn’t know Jagte Raho was also made in Bengali as Ek Din Ratre.

The tune is different than that of Hindi version of the song. I have a feeling that Salil Choudhary used the tune of Bengali version of the song in one of his Hindi films later.
There is a Manna Dey version of song in Hindi. But it looks like a trail version as the orchestration is minimal. The link

Lovely song – and indeed Motilal does a great job acting as a drunkard here.
Just noticed that you have not posted “te ki main jhoot boliya” from this movie yet. I just loooove that song – could you maybe post it one of these days ? 🙂
