Preetam aan milo

C H Atma was a singer who was a devotee of K L Saigal and sang in K L Saigal style. There were many people who sang in Saigal style in 1940s during K L Saigal’s heydays. But C H Atma continued to sing in Saigal style in 1950s even when playback singing style had changed and Bollywood had moved on from 1940s.
C H Atma had a good fan following in 1950s. O P Nayyar was one of his fans. O P Nayyar in fact composed the music of several non filmy albums of C H Atma.
One of the most well known non filmy song that C H Atma sang was “Preetam aan milo”. There are many people who may think that it was sung by K L Saigal, but it is a song sung by C H Atma.
Later, O P Nayyar used this song in the movie “Mr and Mrs 55” (1955) where this song was sung by Geeta Dutt and it was picturised on Madhubala.
Here are both versions of this song. O P Nayyar’s wife, Saroj Mohini Nayyar is credited as the lyricist of this song.

Ok, my Dad says that he doesn’t know if J Singh ever sung it in a film; I may have heard it live only.
Sapan Chakraborty sung a version based on the C H Atma version, albeit comic, for the film Angoor starring Sanjeev Kumar with Gulzar writing the lyrics and R D Burman the music.

There is a third stanza sung by Chandu Atma on doordarshan.

It is interesting to note that in 78RPM record, the starting word of the song was printed in Hindi as ‘Priyatam’ while C H Atma ( and others) pronounced the word ‘Preetam’ in the song. Surprisingly, no credit was given on the record as to the Lyricist and the Music Director.

I love this song, both versions! Thanks for posting the C H Atma one.
This was resung by Jagjit and Chitra Singh in another 70s movie (I can’t remember the name ).
It was before they became really famous.
If you could post that to complete the “triology” it would be great!
