I was not aware of this movie called “Kinaare Kinaare” (1963), but what a musical bonanza this movie turns out to be !
The movie itself is no great shakes. IT featured Dev Anand, Meena Kumari, Chetan Anand etc. From the picturisation of the songs of this movie, I can guess that the movie was a tragedy movie. The songs fitted the mood of the movie as well.
Here is a sad song from this movie which is sung by Mukesh and picturised on Chetan Anand. Music is by Jaidev. Lyricist is someone called Nyay Sharma. And he appears an exponent of Urdu Shaayari, seeing how he comes up with high class urdu Shaayari not only in this song, but in all the songs of this movie.
And let me add that the song is a very nice song to listen to, too.

You are right that this song is very difficult to find. I do not have the song containig the stanza that you have mentioned.
Or if you meant to say that the lyrics of this song is difficult to find then you are correct on that count too.
Considering that the lyricist has written such a nice song, the word could only have been “Ranz” there since “tang” or “tanz” do not make sense in that line.

Thanks squarecutatul and Ashwin for posting the lyrics for this song and making those lyrics complete. I not only found it difficult to identify the word tanz/tang/ranz, but also Jazba-e-ishaq even after hearing the song repeatedly. Now, at least the confusion about Jazba-e-ishaq is over. This reminds me of S.D. Burman’s comment “Mukesh is a very nice person but a horrible singer”. This comment made be mad at S.D. Burman for many years as I like Mukesh’s songs. But, the fact is at times, Mukesh’s pronunciation is poor. Mukesh got to sing many of the top sad songs and this one is one of my favorites.

No need to blame Mukesh! His pronounciations are fine. The word tanz is almost never used in Hindi writing or speech, so our brain does no contextual interpretation, phonetically is very near to tang – a very common word, and g/z being last in word, that sound has fading modulation. S.D Burman said in the context of Hindi vs Urdu diction?

Hi Atul!
Two things about the last stanza of the song.
First, the word is ‘Tanz’ which means ‘Satire’ and second it is ‘Pe’ [upon] and not ‘Se’ from in the final sher of the ghazal.
It correlates with the tone of the couplet, in my humble opinion.
Koi dawaa nahi, fariyaad nahi, tanz nahi
Rehm jab apne pe aataa hain to has letaa hoon
Nor any claim, nor complain, neither satire
Pity when upon my own self, I laugh it away

Your interpretation is correct. Thank you! However, “satire” has the sense of impersonal state. Is not tanz more transalatable in the sense of being mocked/scoffed/jeered/derided here? That is when you show mercy to the victim.

Thanks for the lyrics. I listened to the song again. The word actually sounds as “tanz”, but at the same time the word “se” is also there in the next line, even though “pe” would make more sense. Perhaps the singer actually sang that way because the lyricist was not there on hand to correct him ? Some experienced lyricists actually used to be present at the time of recording to ensure that the singer sings with correct pronunciation.

It’s great to see this song with lyrics. It’s very difficult to find. Actually, I just wanted to confirm one word in the last stanza. I wasn’t sure if it’s “tanz” or “tang” or “ranz”.
