Raat kali ik khwaab mein aayi aur gale kaa haar huyi

I had a diary in 1970s, where I noted down the lyrics of songs that I liked those days. I still have that diary with me, and it is interesting to look at the list of songs that I liked those days.
I find that many of those songs are still popular, at least as far as I am concerned. Noting down the lyrics of songs those days was far more difficult that it is now. those days, I had to rely upon listening to that song on radio, and one needed to listen to a song a few times before one could note down the entire song. So each song is that diary is a testimony to the fact that I must have heard that song at least 3-4 times in radio, with pen and paper ready at hand.
This song under discussion, which is from “Buddha Mil Gaya” (1971) was one of the songs that I had noted down in my diary ( on page 191). Now, more than three decades later, I still like that song.
At that time, I was aware about the details of the audio, since I used to note that down too, but I was not aware about its picturisation. I was very much aware that this song , which was sung by Kishore Kumar, is written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and music is by R D Burman.
It is only now that I have come to know about the details of its picturisation. The song is picturised on Navin Nischol and Archana. Navin Nischol was a hot property those days, after the success of “Saawan Bhaadon”. In fact, it was Navin Nischol ( and not Amitabh Bachchan) who was considered to be the next big male star to emerge from Bollywood.
And as for the lady, I am not surprised that she failed to make it big. She neither has the oomph that a lady needs to succeed in Bollywood, nor does she look like a very good actress .
With the benefit of hindsight, people may say that it was a great song wasted on a nobody. But as I mentioned, no one at that time would call Navin Nischol a nobody.
The song of course was a gem then, and remains a gem even today.

Lyrics
hmm hmm
raat kali ek khwaab mein aayi
aur gale kaa haar huyi
raat kali ek khwaab mein aayi
aur gale kaa haar huyi
subah ko jab ham neend se jaage
aankh tumhi se chaar huyi ee ee
raat kali ek khwaab mein aayi
aur gale kaa haar huyi
chaahe kaho ise, meri mohabbat
chaahe hansi mein udaa do
ye kyaa huaa mujhe
mujhko khabar nahin
ho sake
tum hi bataa do
chaahe kaho ise
meri mohabbat
chaahe hansi mein udaa do
ye kyaa huaa mujhe
mujhko khabar nahin
ho sake
tum hi bataa do
tumne kadam to
rakhaa zameen par
seene mein kyon jhankaar huyi ee ee
raat kali ek khwaab mein aayi
aur gale kaa haar huyi
aankhon mein kaajal
aur laton mein kaali ghataa kaa baseraa
saanwali soorat
mohni moorat
saawan rut kaa saweraa
jabse ye mukhdaa
dil mein khilaa hai
duniyaa meri gulzaar huyi ee ee
raat kali ek khwaab mein aayi
aur gale kaa haar huyi
yoon to haseenon ke
mahjabeenon ke
hote hain roz nazaare
par unhen dekh ke
dekhaa hai jab tumhen
tum lage aur bhi pyaare
yoon to haseenon ke
mahjabeenon ke
hote hain roz nazaare
par unhen dekh ke
dekhaa hai jab tumhen
tum lage aur bhi pyaare
baahon mein le loon
aisi tamannaa, ek nahin, kayi baar huyi
raat kali ek khwaab mein aayi
aur gale kaa haar huyi
subah ko jab ham neend se jaage
aankh tumhi se chaar huyi ee ee
raat kali ek khwaab mein aayi
aur gale kaa haar huyi
