Suniye suniye aajkal ki ladkiyon ka programme

Posted on: October 27, 2009

In this blog, I post gems from the golden era of Bollywood movie music, which happened to be roughly from 1950 to 1980, though I have posted songs that are from the times falling outside this era as well. Many of the songs that I have posted are well known even today, while many other songs that I have posted have become forgotten. I particularly love to post those songs which were very popular during their time but which may not be known to too many people today.

Then there are songs that even I was not aware of. when I stumble upon these songs, I am not only pleasantly surprised, but I also wonder how these songs escaped being popular.

There are several reasons why many of these gems failed to be popular despite the obvious calibre. It has mainly to do with lack of exposure. Unless the song was from a well established production house, the only way songs of a movie could become popular was if the movie had a good run. If the movie flopped, then it would cause lack of exposure for its songs as well, no matter how good the songs were.

When it came to suffereing such misfortune, Madan Mohan was in a league of his own. In movies after movies, he would give his best, but the movie would flop, and his songs would be dealt blows that they did not deserve. Many of his songs managed to become popular and in fact became timeless classics, but then there are many that were lost because of this reason.

Here is a high quality gem composed by Madan Mohan, which few people got to listen to even when this movie was realeased.

This movie is “Ladka Ladki” (1966) and the song, with the benefit of hindsight , should be regarded as a classic. The only thing that has prevented it from becoming one is that this song is not known to people.

This song is a light hearted comedy song and it is written by Rajinder Krishan. The song is sung by Kishore Kumar. Not only that, this song is picturised on Kishore Kumar too. And the picturisatiuon is to be seen to be believed. In this song, Kishore Kumar is singing on stage, and is demonstrating how a college going girl of those days behaved . Half of his body is dressed like a male and the other half as a female, and he expertly switches over from one role to the other.

In fact , have seen Amir Khan play a role like this in a TV ad. Now we know from where Amir Khan’s ad was inspired. Look at the original here, and what an amazing gem of a song this is.

I had stumbled upon this song a little while ago, but I was not posting it. Why ? Because I was waiting for an opportune moment to post it. For this blog, such opportune moments come when it is completing a century. Yes, this song becomes the 2100th song of this blog. This century took more than the usual time for this blog. It has taken me exactly one month to complete this century whereas earlier I was taking just half the time to complete the centuries. I got slowed down for many reasons after I completed 2000 songs, which was a major landmark for this blog.

Hopefully many more centuries and thousands lie ahead, as I have only just screatched the surface (as I keep saying repeatedly) and there are many many more great songs still lying therethat are yet to be posted.

I take this opportunity to thank all my well wishers who keep encouraging me by visiting the blog and by commenting. The visitors are increasing with every passing month and this shows that there are takers for the kind of music that I discuss in this blog. For the last three months, I am getting close to 50,000 visitors per month which is a very good figure for a blog that has just been a labour of love. And I am very thankful to those visitors who offer their comments. I cannot stress enough how much these comments mean to me. And I thank those commentators even more who send me farmaishes, and/or offer me valuable bits of informations, that I can make use of.

Once again, I thank all my well wishers, and I hope that this blog will continue to grow from strength to strength in the days to come.

Song-Suniye suniye aaj kal ki ladkiyon ka programmme (Ladka Ladki)(1966) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Madan Mohan

Lyrics

suniye suniye aaj kal ki ladkiyon ka programme
suniye suniye aaj kal ki ladkiyon ka programme
kaise inki subah guzre kaise inki shaam
suniye suniye aaj kal ki ladkiyon ka programme
suniye suniye

nau baje tak bistar mein ye
khurche apne gaalon ko
sapne dekhen beatles ke
aur noche apne baalon ko
aankh khuli ghabraake
to uth baithin jhunjhlaa ke
Oh my god
I am late
I am late again
aankh khuli ghabraake
to uth baithin jhunjhlaa ke
shor machhakar
mummy daddy
naukar par ilzaam
suniye suniye
aaj kal ki ladkiyon ka programme
suniye suniye

taxi
kithe jaana hai memsaab
girls college
taxi pakdi college pahunchi
sun liya lecture aadhaa
padhte padhte yaad aa gaya
kisi se lunch ka waada
o my god
I am late
I am late again
padhte padhte yaad aa gaya
kisi se lunch ka waada
khisak ke pahunchi restautant
jaan me aayi jaan
haay hero
haay hero
haay hero
haay baby
haay baby
haay baby
haay
haay
haay
haay
haay
haay
honey
main to bore ho gayaa
really
dont tell me now

itne me le aaya bearer
coffee ke do jaam
suniye suniye aaj kal ki ladkiyon ka programme
suniye suniye

tarah tarah ki chhid gayi gupshup
Yardley ka mile na makeup
yes my darling
what a pity
tarah tarah ki chhid gayi gupshup
Yardley ka mile na makeup
I am fed up with this country
kadam kadam par dhoti waale
moti tondon waale laale
Chrismas me Japan chalenge
nahin to Inglistaan chalenge
aaa
that will be great fun
isi tarah ki baaton mein
din saara huaa tamaam
suniye suniye
aajkal ki ladkiyon kaa programme
kaise inki subah guzre
kaise inki shaam
suniye suniye
he he

This is a delightful song, but I thought it was a popular song because it plays quite often on our Sunday TV show of Hindi songs, in the segment reserved for old songs. Kishore kumar was a really versatile person, he sang, danced, directed, acted, and did all this in both serious and funny roles. What a man!

Thanks for the song, Atul!

Congrats on getting to 2100, Atul.
Even if this century was a bit slower than the previous ones, that does not matter at all. What matters is that you post whenever you are able to, not because you HAVE to post anything. 🙂

Have thoroughly enjoyed your blog from song # 1 to song # 2100.
And looking forward to the next century. 🙂

Congratulations on reaching 2100 songs, may this only be the beginning! And more than 2100 thankyous for this hugely educational blog, from a non-Indian who recently discovered (and fell in love with) Indian film music. I am working my way through your archives, and enjoying it every step of the way.
And,like raja said, looking forward to the next century.
