When it comes to dancing ladies of Bollywood movies, Helen is known to us all, but there were others as well. Bela Bose was one of her contemporaries and much of her dancing was in 1960s.
Here is a song from “CID 909” which shows Bela Bose dancing to Verma Malik’s lyrics and O P Nayyar’s tune. The singer is Asha Bhonsle.
O P Nayyar was the music direector in “CID” as well, which was an A grade movie whereas “CID 909” was a B grade movie with such actors as Firoz Khan, Mumtaz etc in lead roles. And as happens in most such movies, the music of such songs fail to become popular, especially when there were so many great songs for the listeners to choose from. In any case, the listeners were not exactly the choosers those days as they listened to only those songs that were played on radio or on loudspeakers. Most people could not afford record players and cassette players, CD players , mp3 players,internet etc were non existent.
Now, when all thse are there and song have become more accessible to all, songs like this have been gaining new audience. When one listens to the songs of this movie now, they sound wonderful.

It is a really entertaining movie too, with lots of good songs 🙂 Not a “B” movie at all, really!
