“Lahore” (1949) is a love story that begins at Lahore in pre- independence days.Nargis and Karan Dewan falling in love there. Then independence leads to partition and violence. They are separated in the aftermath of partition. The two finally reunite at Delhi when a Muslim protects Nargis brings her to Delhi. That way, the story of “Lahore” is somewhat similar to the story of “Chhaliya” (1959).
The mpvie “Lahore” (1949) was a musical blockbuster. I have already posted the iconic “bahaarein phir bhi aayengi” song from this movie. Here is a duet from this movie. It is sung by Karan Deewan and Lata and it is picturised on Karan Deewan and Nargis. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist and Shyam Sundar composed the music. It is a lovely song and it is beautifully picturised as well.

Song-Duniya hamare pyaar ki yoon hi jawaan rahe (Lahore) (1949) Singers-Karan Dewan, Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Shyam Sundar
Lyrics
duniyaa hamaare pyaar ki yoon hi jawaan rahe
main bhi wahin rahoon meraa saajan jahaan rahe
duniyaa hamaare pyaar ki yoon hi jawaan rahe
main bhi wahin rahoon meraa saajan jahaan rahe
do din ki zindagi hai ise yoon guzaar den
do din ki zindagi hai ise yoon guzaar den
ujdi huyi ye pyaar ki raahen sanwaar den
ujdi huyi ye pyaar ki raahen sanwaar den
ham tum yahaan rahen naa rahen is kaa gham nahin
lekin hamaare pyaar kaa baaki nishaan rahe
main bhi wahin rahoon meraa saajan jahaan rahe
duniyaa hamaare pyaar ki yoon hi jawaan rahe
main bhi wahin rahoon meraa saajan jahaan rahe
duniyaa mein chhod jaayenge ham wo nishaaniyaan
duniyaa mein chhod jaayenge ham wo nishaaniyaan
ban jaayengin jo pyaar ki meethi kahaaniyaan
ban jaayengin jo pyaar ki meethi kahaaniyaan
duniyaa hamaare baad hamen yoon karegi yaad
do pyaar karne waale hain par ek jaan rahe
main bhi wahin rahoon meraa saajan jahaan rahe
duniyaa hamaare pyaar ki yoonhi jawaan rahe
main bhi wahin rahoon meraa saajan jahaan rahe
duniyaa hamaare pyaar ki

What a beautiful song! I appreciate the way Lataji starts her line of the song which brings the emotion, enthusiasm and eagerness of the young lover (Nargis) to the fore. Simply marvellous.Unbeliveble as it’s only 64 year old number.

Always liked and heard the song for ages.Recently bought a dvd of the movie and saw the picturisation. Fantastic immature shrill voice of Lataji and Karan Dewan’s broad voice which compliments it.
I have never seen Karan Dewan paired with Nargis who looks very young, and Karan Dewan minus his mustache.
Never realised that Rajinder Krishan used to write lyrics so early.
Shyam Sunder was a versatile music director of his era.
Atul thank for posting this song.
