Ye bansi kyun gaaye

“Parakh” (1960) was a delightfully different kind of a movie. This movie is no longer remembered much, but its songs are fabulous.
The better known songs are still known to music lovers, but even the lesser known songs are superb, as I have found.
Here is a song from “Parakh” (1960) that I stumbled upon only a few days back. When I listened to this song and watched its picturisation, I was simply floored, and I stay floored even now, after the passage of several days.
This song is a creation of genius. Lyrics of Shailendra are quite imaginative, and so is the music of Sali Chaudhary. Lata has song this song amazingly well. And the picturisation is just out of this world. This song is picturised as a stage song. Villagers have assembled to watch dance programme and they are subjected to this superb song and dance. The expressions of unbridled joy and gay abandon that Sadhana Nishi exudes in this song is wonderful to watch. And towards the end of the song, spectators are distracted by announcement of some other programme. Sadhana Nishi gamely tries to keep the spectators glued to her performance, but the spectators turn their back on her to see what the announcement is all about. And the song ends with the dancer stopping in her track as she realises that the spectators are no longer watching her performance. This expression on her face (even in long shot), is priceless.
In fact the whole song is priceless.
PS-I thank Veena Seth for pointing it out that the actress is Nishi, not Sadhana.

Song-Ye bansi kyun gaaye (Parakh) (1960) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Salil Chaudhary
ho
ye bansi haaye
ye bansi kyun gaaye
mujhe kyun sataaye
ye kyaa gul khilaaye
door na jaane kaahe
mujhko bulaaye
haay
aa haa haa
bansi kyun bulaaye
mujhe kyun sataaye
ye kyaa gul khilaaye
door naa jaane
kaahe mujhko bulaaye
haay
aa haa haa
bansi kyun bulaaye
ye bansi
nadiyaa ke teer mohe
dekh ke akeli
mujhko sikhaane aayi
preet paheli
nadiyaa ke teer mohe
dekh ke akeli
mujhko sikhaane aayi
preet paheli
jiyaa uljhaaye
mohe lalchaaye
kit jaaun haaye haaye
ye bansi kyun bulaaye
mujhe kyun sataaye
ye kyaa gul khilaaye
door naa jaane
kaahe mujhko bulaaye
haay
aa aa aa
bansi kyun bulaaye
ho bansi
bas mein na dil
na ye nain hamaare
bachpan jo rooth gayaa
rooth gaye saare
bas mein na dil
na ye nain hamaare
bachpan jo rooth gayaa
rooth gaye saare
mere man bhaaye
chori chori aaye
dil mein samaaye
aa aa aa
bansi kyun bulaaye
mujhe kyun sataaye
ye kyaa gul khilaaye
door na jaane kaahe
mujhko bulaaye
haay
aa aa aa
bansi kyun bulaaye
mujhe kyun sataaye
ye kyaa gul khilaaye
door naa jaane
kaahe mujhko bulaaye
haay
aa haa haa
bansi kyun bulaaye

I had nearly forgotten this song. thanks for reminding. 😉
The actress looks a bit like Ranjitkumari the courtesan from Sahib Biwi aur Ghulam, but she does not feature in the cast list of Parakh.
