When I look back at the list of songs, I find that there are lots and lots of “weepy” songs in Hindi movies. In fact I need to open a new category names like this. Clubbing them all as sad songs will not do.
It is alright if there are odd weepy songs, but there are far too many of them. And since these songs often were important parts of their movies, it follows that many of these movies were weepy movies as well.
Take the movie called “Bindiyaa” (1960). It had Balraj Sahni and Padmini in it. This movie, Lalitha informs me, is indeed an insufferable weepy movie. The song from this movie which is her farmaish is tailormade for this movie, and in fact, it has gone on to become a memorable song of its genre.
Here is this song which is sung by Rafi and it is picturised on Balraj Sahni and Padmini. It is a background song which gets played while the two actors are seen looking very sad and weepy indeed.
Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist and Iqbal Qureshi is the music director of this memorable all time classic song.
