Ye chaar din bahaar ke

Posted on: October 6, 2010

Few people have heard of this movie called “Rukhsaanaa” (1955). It is interesting to note that this movie had actors like Kishore Kumar, Meena Kumari, Shammi Kapoor and Kumkum in it.

And another thing of interest for me as a music lover is that this movie had the music of Sajjad Hussain. The movie makers of this movie were among the rare brave souls who signed up Sajjad Hussain despite knowing that he was a difficult person to work with.

The movie as well as its songs are not very well known today, but the songs of this movie are lovely to listen to. In this movie, Sajjad Hussain used the voices of several singers.

Here is a duet song from this movie which is sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle. If Kishore Kumar, whom the plain speaking Sajjad Hussain once called “Shor Kumar” managed to get a song recorded with that demanding music director, then Kishore Kumar, then a struggling actor-singer, must have sung very well indeed. And Asha Bhonsle, another struggling up and coming singer was there to keep company with Kishore Kumar and she too managed to sing this song to the satisfaction of Sajjad Hussain.

This movie had two lyricists , viz Tanvir Naqvi and Shakeel Badayuni. This song is written by Shakeel Badayuni.

I am not aware how this song was picturised, but assuming that this song had Kishore Kumar and Meena KUmari as the lead pair then I guess that this song must have been picturised on Kishore Kumar and Meena Kumari, though I cannot be sure.

Sing-Ye chaar din bahaar ke (Rukhsaanaa) (1955) Singers-Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Sajjad Hussain

Lyrics

ye chaar din bahaar ke
hansi-khushi guzaar ke
bhulaa do zindagi ke gham
bhulaa do zindagi ke gham
bhulaa do zindagi ke gham
nissaar tum pe dil meraa
kategi zindagi sadaa
tumhaare pyaa mein sanam
bhulaa do zindagi ke gham
bhulaa do zindagi ke gham

khili huyi hai chaandni
chhidi huyi hai raagini
nazar-nazar mein mastiyaan
adaa-adaa mein shokhiyaan
hamen tumhaari justjoo
tumhen hamaari aarzoo
badhe ye pyaar din-ba-din
bhulaa do zindagi ke gham
bhulaa do zindagi ke gham

tumhaare dil mein ham rahen
hamaare dil mein tum raho
kisi se apni daastaan
na ham kahen na tum kaho
zamaanaa chaahe kuchh kahe
zafaa kare sitam kare
judaa na honge tum se ham
bhulaa do zindagi ke gham
bhulaa do zindagi ke gham

Yes Sajjad Hussain called Kishore Kumar “Shor Kumar” and Talat Mehmood “Galat Mehmood”.
Covering all his songs in your blog is a fantastic idea.
