The mention of the name, takes me back again and again to my first meeting with Vijaylaxmi ji Deseram, and her introduction of Dr. Ashraf Aziz. Regulars will be familiar with Vijaylaxmi ji. Most avid listeners of Radio Ceylon and then Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation will immediately recognize this name, and will recall the soft and relaxing voice that has been the anchor of many mainline radio programs on Hindi film music and its creators. I have not yet met Dr. Aziz (who stays in Washington DC, USA), or even talked with him on the phone. But I am so familiar with his childhood and adolescent years, as also part of his later life. All on account of a wonderfully written article that captures a few key episodes and passages in great detail. The subject matter dealt within this article is beautifully summarized in its title – “Sajjaad Hussain Ki Khoj Mein”.
Remembering Sajjaad Hussain, the genius of musical magic, on his anniversary of birth (15th June.)

Sajjaad Hussain – the enigmatic genius of the industry. A self trained composer par excellence, for whom the venerated Anil Biswas has used the epithet of the “only original composer” in Hindi films. An artist whose composition have the capacity to surprise you and confound you at the same time. No other music director comes even close to creating the fusion of the spoken sound and the music so seamlessly and so beautifully, and one is left wondering at the depth of this genius as he will move from one arrangement to another one, as the song moves from one antaraa to the next one.

on:This blog has 78 songs composed by Sajjad Hussain and that leaves about 20 more Sajjad Hussain songs that are yet to be covered.
These remaining songs are rare songs that are difficult to find and they may be available only with private dedicated collectors. I had mentioned in one of my earlier posts that I had the privilege of meeting Mr Bakshshish Singh in Sudhir jee’s residence. He has a nice collection of old and obscure songs and he is ever willing to share them. While leaving, he left his portable hard disk with Sudhir jee for him to see what was useful for him. Next day, when I was again in Sudhir Jee’s residence, I looked at the contents of the hard disk and copied some of it as may fit in my pen drive.

on:Here in this blog we discuss songs from Hindi movies on a daily basis. Since we discuss songs so it is natural that we discuss the people also who are involved in the making of these songs. They could be the singers, lyricists or the music directors, or they could be actors figuring in the picturisation of these songs. Rougly speaking, this blog by now had 6280 plus songs from 2000 plus movies. Over three hundred singers, over three hundred lyricists, and over two hundred music directors have been discussed in the blog so far. I have not counted the number of actors figuring in these songs, but that number is likely to be more than three hundreds as well.

Greetings all friends and readers, for a wonderful and colorful festival of Holi today.
The title of this song says very aptly, ‘Holi Phir Se Aa Gayee Re’. It is once again, that time of the year – the weather is really starting to get warm in the sub continent. The cold winds from the north have given way to pleasant breezes of spring, and the time duration between the sunrise and the sunset is getting longer and longer. The colors of spring are just past their peak in the gardens, and today is the last day of the month of ‘Phalgun’ as per the Hindu calendar. Which means it is going to be a full moon tonight, and tomorrow starts the month of ‘Chaitra’.
