Gaaye jaa geet milan ke tu apni lagan ke

This is a very well known song- in fact an iconic song. This song is a bullock cart song sung by Mukesh. All these days I thought that this song was from a Raj Kapoor movie. So it came as a surprise to me when I realised that this song is actually from a Dilip Kumar movie.
It is a bullock cart song all right. Dilip Kumar is driving a bullock cart and singing this song, while Nargis, dressed in a bridalwear is seated in the bullockcart behind. All these days, I was confusing this song with the bullock cart song of “Aah” (1953) (Chhoti si ye zindgani )which is in fact picturised on Mukesh himself at the driver’s seat and Raj Kapoor seated behind (not in a bridalwear though 😀 ).
Here is this iconic song from “Mela” (1948). The song is written by Shakeel Badayuni and its music is composed by Naushad. All these days, I thought that it was a Shankar Jaikishan composition ! And in fact I also thought that I had already discussed this song in the past. I was wrong in these counts, of course.
Song-Gaaye jaa geet milan ke tu apni lagan ke (Mela) (1948) Singer-Mukesh, Lyrics-Shakeel Badayuni, MD-Naushad
Lyrics
gaaye jaa geet milan ke,
tu apni lagan ke
sajan ghar jaanaa hai
gaaye jaa geet milan ke,
tu apni lagan ke
sajan ghar jaanaa hai
kaahe chhalke nainon ki gagri
kaahe barse jal
tum bin sooni saajan ki nagri
pardesiyaa ghar chal
pyaase hain deep gagan ke,
tere darshan ke
sajan ghar jaanaa hai
gaaye jaa geet milan ke,
tu apni lagan ke
sajan ghar jaanaa hai
lut na jaaye jeewan kaa deraa
mujhko hai ye gham
ham akele,
ye jag luteraa
bichhden na milke ham
bigde naseeb na banke
ye din jeewan ke
sajan ghar jaanaa hai
gaaye jaa geet milan ke,
tu apni lagan ke
sajan ghar jaanaa hai
dole nainaa preetam ke dwaare
milne ki hai dhun
baalam teraa tujhko pukaare
yaad aanewaale sun
saathi milenge bachpan ke
khilenge phool man ke
sajan ghar jaanaa hai
gaaye jaa geet milan ke,
tu apni lagan ke
sajan ghar jaanaa hai
