Dekho taangaa meraa niraalaa

Posted on: February 7, 2011

Discovering forgotten gems from the golden era of Hindi movie music is quite a rewarding experience. Look at this discovery, for instance !

Though Rafi has sung thousands of songs, this could well be a rather obscure and unheard song even for many diehard Rafi fans.

This song is from “Taangaawaali” (1955). Prem Dhawan is the lyricist and Salil Chaudhary is the music director. Video of this song is not available so I am unable to tell about its picturisation.

The song itself is wonderful to listen to. If you are like me, you will love listening to this song.

Song-Dekho taangaa mera niraalaa (Tangawali) (1955) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Prem Dhawan, MD-Salil Chaudhary

Lyrics

dekho taangaa mera niraala
dekho taangaa mera niraala
yahi masjid yahi shiwaalaa
baithe milke yahaan
Alladin aur Shankar lala
chal mere ghode chala chal

koi aapas mein ladwaataa
koi rasta galat dikhaataa
koi aapas mein ladwaataa
koi rasta galat dikhaataa
par ghodaa mera
sabko manzil pahunchaataa
chal mere ghode chala chal

ye bhed khari khoti ka
tanta daadhi choti ka
ye bhed khari khoti ka
tanta daadhi choti ka
sach poochho to
sab jhagda hai roti hai
chal mere ghode chala chal

koi Ram ka hai mastaanaa
koi Allah ka deewaana
koi Ram ka hai mastaanaa
koi Allah ka deewaana
hai raste kayi
par sabka ek thikaanaa
chal mere ghode chalaa chal

koi aapas mein ladwataa
koi rasta galat dikhaataa
koi aapas mein ladwataa
koi rasta galat dikhaataa
par ghodaa mera
sabko manzil pahunchaataa
chal mere ghode chala chal

ye bhed khari khoti ka
tanta daadhi choti ka
ye bhed khari khoti ka
tanta daadhi choti ka
sach poochho to
sab jhagda hai roti hai
chal mere ghode chala chal

koi Ram ka hai mastaanaa
koi Allah ka deewaana
koi Ram ka hai mastaanaa
koi Allah ka deewaana
hai raste kayi
par sabka ek thikaanaa
chal mere ghode chalaa chal

My observations about this song.
1) Tune of this song is similar to the duet ” Tere Nainon Ne Jaadu Daala (Lata-Rafi) from the same film. Is it because both are based on Punjabi folk tunes.
2) Lyrics of last 3 stanzas are repeated from previous 3.stanzas.
