Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Vasant hai aayaa

Posted on: March 29, 2011

Most music lovers love to listen to light songs and run away from songs based on classical music. I certainly belonged to that category of music lovers who ran away a mile from classical music.

Now, some three-four decades later, I find myself liking these semi classical songs from Hindi movies.

Take this song from ‘Stree” (1961) for example. I would not touch this song with a barge pole when I was young, but today I loved listening to this song sevceral times. Of course the fact that I was trying to get the lyrics of this song right had something to do with it.

Here is this lovely song from “Stree”(1961). The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle, Mahendra Kapoor and chorus. The song is picturised on Rajshree, V Shantaram and several dancers. The picturisation is on a grand scale.

The song is an ode to spring season (Vasant ritu) and the song welcomes the arrival of the spring season. It is a joyous song whose lyrics has been written by Bharat Vyas is chaste Hindi, the kind that is quite appropriate for this song.

C Ramchandra is the music director of this song.

Atul this is a real undiscovered (by me) gem. Everything is fantastic–great song, perfect for vasant, and love the chaste hindi rhyme. The flowers opening up one by one–Shantaram’s imagination at work. And Rajashree dances like one of those butterflies. What a treat! Now I can replace some of those tired numbers I have been listening too and listen to this instead.
I just found out I am born on Vasant–like Saraswati (the panchangams on the internet go back to that forgotten era when I was born). So the song is extra special.
