Madhubala (born 19 feb 1933) made her screen debut at a very young age of about 8-9 years in 1942 in the movie “Basant” as a child artist under the name of Baby Mumtaz. She worked under this name for the next few years as a child artist. She began working in grown up roles in late 1940s, when she was barely 15 years of age, and it was sometime in late 1940s- early 1950s that she was given the screen name of Madhubala with which she is known today.
She is mainly known as an actress, but she has also sung songs. There are people who think that the singer Madhubala Jhaweri is the same as Madhubala and they tend to upload Madhubala Jhaweri’s songs with pictures of Madhubala. But that is not correct.
Here is a rare song sung by Madhubala when she was a child artist working under the name of baby Mumtaz. This song is from “Pujaari” (1946) and she was barely 12-13 years of age at that time. She had acted in this movie too, so it is logical to guess that the song was picturised on her as well.
Wali Sahab is the lyricist of this song. Hansraj Bahl made his debut as a music director in Hindi movies with this movie.
