The 1962 movie Rangoli has a bevy of most wonderful songs, some of which are already discussed in this blog. Here is a very soft and romantic duet from the same movie, beautifully sung by Mukesh and Lata Mangeshkar. Lyrics are by Shailendra, and the composition is by Shanker Jaikishan.
The lead pair in this movie is Kishore Kumar and Vijayantimala. However, this song is picturized on Jagdev and Sadhna Roychoudhary, the supporting pair in the movie. In the opening part of this clip, Ulhaas makes a brief appearance. In the movie, he is apparently the father of Jagdev, and is expressing his displeasure about his son. The scene cuts to a hilly location where the two players, Jagdev and Sadhna Roychoudhary are lip syncing this song. On seeing the rendition of this song on the screen, one cannot but help sympathizing with Ulhaas 🙂 .

Song-Ham tum ye khoyi khoyi raahein (Rangoli) (1962) Singers-Mukesh, Lata, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
hum tum ye khoyee khoyee raahen
chanchal ishaaron se bulaayen
aaja,
tu aaja kahin jaayen
mausam hai pyaar ka
le chal bahaaron ne pukaara hai
chanchal ishaaron ne pukaara hai
jhoomte nazaaron ne pukaara hai
mausam hai pyaar ka
hum tum ye khoyee khoyee raahen
chanchal ishaaron se bulaayen
aaja,
tu aaja kahin jaayen
mausam hai pyaar ka
aa haaa
aa haaa
yoon hi chalte chalte
hum aise kho jaayen
jalne waali aankhen
humko dhoond na paayen
hum tum ye khoyee khoyee raahen
chanchal ishaaron se bulaayen
aaja,
tu aaja kahin jaayen
mausam hai pyaar ka
le chal bahaaron ne pukaara hai
chanchal ishaaron ne pukaara hai
jhoomte nazaaron ne pukaara hai
mausam hai pyaar ka
apne armaanon ki
ye jhilmil tasveeren
hum ko dekho aise
judti hain taqdeeren
hum tum ye khoyee khoyee raahen
chanchal ishaaron se bulaayen
aaja,
tu aaja kahin jaayen
mausam hai pyaar ka
le chal bahaaron ne pukaara hai
chanchal ishaaron ne pukaara hai
jhoomte nazaaron ne pukaara hai
mausam hai pyaar ka

Oh, and I forgot one of the important songs in this “Mukesh-fun-duets” category of mine – “ye mausam rangeen sama”. 🙂

– Tumse kuch kehnaa hai, gar tum kuchh kehne do — Guest House
– Nazar nazar se ho rahi hai baat pyaar ki — Main Nashe Mein Hoon
– Dil se dil ki dor baandhe — Chhaayaa
– Aankhon mein rang kyun aaya — Ek Phool Char Kaante
– Ibtada-ye ishq mein hum saar raat jaage — Hariyali aur Rasta
And there is many many more, I am sure 🙂

Sudhir ji,
I beg your pardon to make some ammends in the storyline of Rangoli, which I have seen myself.
Sewakram(Nasir Hussain) and Shubhangi(Durga Khote) are the parents of Nirmala aka Nimmo(Vaijayantimala) and Lattoo(Jagdeo).Rani(sadhana) is the daughter of Dhumal.Kishore Kumar is the son of Ulhas,a widower,Contractor by profession.
Actually, the first scene in the video, depicting Ulhas, has nothing to do with the subsequent song and dance of Lattoo and Rani.

Arun ji,
Yes, it is correct, and you are right in pointing the error in this post. Apologies.
I had seen this movie years ago on Doordarshan. I did procure its disc version, as it was released some time ago, but did not get around to seeing it again. I browsed through it once again today, to refresh my memory.
Thanks for the correction 🙂

When I saw the title of this song here, it didn’t immediately strike a bell but the moment I heard the first few words, I realised I know this song. I’ve heard it a few times on AIR, though I did not know it was from Rangoli. Nice, pleasant song which I’ve always put in one of my own categories “Mukesh-fun-duets” (others include “dekho mausam kya bahaar hai”, “jabse hum tum baharon mein”, “bikhra ke zulfen chaman mein na jaana”). 🙂
Thanks, Sudhir saab. This is a lovely song.
