“Waaris” (1954) has lovely songs in it.I have discussed three songs from this movie in the past. Here is another song from this movie.
This song is sung by Suraiyya. It is picturised on herself and her son. From what I can make of the movie (from its songs) Suraiyya gets separated from her husband after a train accident, and as it happens, she was pregnant at that time and this son is born to her. In this song, she is trying to put her son to sleep by singing him a lullaby. What she ends up singing is not a lullaby but the sad tale of her life. Of course, the tale modifies the characters suitably, viz her beloved getting described as “Chaand” (moon) etc.
The song is sung by Suraiyya herself. Qamar Jalalabadi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Anil Biswas.
It is a lesser known song from this movie that I heard for the first time just hours ago. And I quite liked this song.
