Bhagwan tere sansaar ke hain khel niraale

Posted on: June 12, 2011

When all else fails, Hero/heroine’s long suffering mother would go to the idol of the God and sing a prayer where she would berate the God for his inaction in coming to her rescue. 😀

Such songs are quite common in Hindi movies of 1960s and 1970s, with Nirupa Roy as the typically long suffereing Maa singing typically in the voice of Lata.

But how did they manage this kind of situation in pre Nirupa Roy and pre Lata days ? In those days, actresses sang their own songs and that meant actresses playing log suffering Maa too. And they in fact did as good a job, if not better, than Nirupa Roy/Lata combination.

Here is a superb song of this genre from as far back as 1948. The movie is “Vidya” (1948). Here the long suffering Maa of Suraiyya sings this prayer to Bhagwan. and pray who plays Suraiyya’s mother here. she is one and the only Amirbai Karnataki, a leading female singer of those days. Here she doubles up as the actor on the screen too, and make a nice job of it. It is a rare opportunity of fans to see how Amirbai Karnataki the singer looked like. and she certainly made for a pretty Maa !

Anjum Pilibhiti is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman.

Lyrics

Bhagwan tere sansaar ke hain khel niraale
Bhagwan tere sansaar ke hain khel niraale
hanstaa hai koi aur koi kartaa hai naale
khel niraale
hanstaa hai koi aur koi kartaa hai naale
khel niraale
Bhagwan tere sansaar ke hain khel niraale

dukh se koi bechain koi sukh mein hai hanstaa
dukh se koi bechain koi sukh mein hai hanstaa
manzil pe koi aur koi bhoolaa hai rastaa
koi bhoolaa hai rastaa
koi hai magan gairon se milne ki khushi mein
koi hai magan gairon se milne ki khushi mein
aur koi tadapte huye dil ko hai sambhaale
khel niraale
Bhagwan tere sansaar ke hain khel niraale

kab tak koi dukh jhelegaa sukh waalon ke daata
kab tak koi muh dhoyegaa anshuwan se vidhaataa
ronaa hi agar hai meri qismat mein to Bhagwan
o tu bhi zaraa aa
o tu bhi zaraa saath mere aansoo bahaa le
aansoo bahaa le

Bhagwan tere sansaar ke hain khel niraale
hanstaa hai koi aur koi kartaa hai naale
khel niraale
Bhagwan tere sansaar ke hain khel niraale
Bhagawan khel niraale
