Taaron ko dil ki baat sunaayee…main bahaaron ki natkhat raani
Posted on: July 14, 2011
I am aware of the more popular songs of “Boot polish” (1953) and I have in fact discussed three songs from this movie in the past. I have not seen the movie, so I am not aware of all the songs of this movie.
As it is, Prakashchandra, who sent the lyrics of this song, saw this movie in his childhood. He remembers all the songs of this movie, and he in fact remembers the story line too. According to his childhood recollections, the two orphan kids (Baby Naaz and Master Ratan Kumar) stay with Chaachi (Chand Burque), who maltreats the kids.Chaachi entertains her customers in her cottage at night while the kids are kept outside all this while. How does Chaachi entertain her customers ? Just like orphan kids in Hindi movies take to polishing boots, women like Chaachi earn their livelihood through mujra.
Though Prakashchandra has a vague idea of recalling Chand Burque performing in this song sung by Lata, I have not been able to locate the video of this song, which Prakashchandra describes as the song that he like the most among all the songs of this movie.
Personally I had never heard this song today, but on seraching through my collection , I found that I had the audio of this song. If I decide to search with some urgency, I am sure I will be able to find the picturisation too, because I definitely have the VCD of this movie lying somewhere. But I am not that desperate to look for the picturisation as of now. For me the audio will do for now.
So here is the audio of this little known song from “Boot Polish” (1953). The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Chand Burque. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist and music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

taaron ko dil ki baat sunaayee
tamaam raat
tujhse bichadke, neend na aayee
tamaam raat

main bahaaron ki natkhat raani
main bahaaron ki natkhat raani
saari duniya hai mujhpe deewaani
saari duniya hai mujhpe deewaani
haaye
main bahaaron ki natkhat raani
main bahaaron ki natkhat raani
saari duniya hai mujhpe deewaani
saari duniya hai mujhpe deewaani
haaye
main bahaaron ki natkhat raani
lootoon dilon ko ,
tirchi nazar se
toofaan macha doon,
jaaoon jidhar se
lootoon dilon ko ,
tirchi nazar se
toofaan macha doon,
jaaoon jidhar se
mujhe aathi hain baaten banaani
mujhe aathi hain baaten banaani
saari duniya hai mujhpe deewaani
saari duniya hai mujhpe deewaani
haaye ,
main bahaaron ki natkhat raani
meri bahaar bhi jag se niraali
chaahat karaa de jebon ko khaali
meri bahaar bhi jag se niraali
chaahat karaa de jebon ko khaali
dil lagaanaa hai gham ki khaani
dil lagaanaa hai gham ki khaani
saari duniya hai mujhpe deewaani
saari duniya hai mujhpe deewaani
haaye ,
main bahaaron ki natkhat raani
marta ho koi,
apni balaa se
yoon hi rahenge, apne tamaashe
marta ho koi,
apni balaa se
yoon hi rahenge,
apne tamaashe
mujhe apni hai duniya basaani
mujhe apni hai duniya basaani
saari duniya hai mujhpe deewaani
saari duniya hai mujhpe deewani
haaye ,
main bahaaron ki natkhat raani

Further, originally this film was shot as a songless film, But on the insistence of producer Raj kapoorji(when he saw the trial show of the film), they have composed and shot all the songs separately. And then they have included those songs to the already completed movie. This trivia, I have read in the magazines,
Arunji where are you????, please confirm the correctness of the above fact, because all my trivia writings are based on the articles written in Film glossy magazines, sometimes there are the chance of gossips printed in these type of magazines. That`s why we can`t rely on these facts sometimes.

Lata Mangeshkar was originally planning to sing this song but the lyrics were not acceptable to her according to her. They said “bazaaron ki natkhat rani” intsead of “baharon ki.” However, the lyrics changed and so did the singer. This movie got several awards including that for music. Later RK movie of this sort went to Dattaram, “Ab Dilli dur Nahin”..
The movie was also the first one after Aag to not feature Lata Mangeshkar.

Prakash ji,
CHAND BURKE was born in punjab in muslim family consisting of 12 brothers and sisters.
Her debut film in Lahore was Kahan Gaye-1945/46.During the shooting of this film, she fell in love with Niranjan, writer and director of the movie.she converted and they got married. After few movies, she became famous in Lahore as ‘the dancing Lily of Punjab’.After Partition they shifted to Bombay but after the film ‘Hamari Manzil’-1949,she stopped getting work till Raj Kapoor selected her from 200 contestants for the role in Boot Polish.
Then she got some roles. Her last film was mohobbat isko kehte hai-1965.
She was never a Heroine and acted totally in only 18 films as a side role. She divorced mutually from Niranjan in 1954.
One of her brothers was S.M.Burke,ICS officer, who later became a minister in Pakistan Govt.
As far as Boot Polish is concerned,it is impossible that RK planned it as a songless film. That was an era of Golden music and RK was a connoiseur of good music. He knew the importance of Music in a film.As far as I know only one song was added after the completion of the film and that was “Lapak zapak…”

Thank you
for posting this song,
As far as my memory goes, this is not a typical mujra, Chaand Burque (in the movie, herself is a poor woman)wearing a torn saree(as all housewives of jhopadpatti does) dances amidst her customers in her dilapidated hut or jhopadpatti house.
Please check the correctness of this fact.
I have seen this movie in retro movie festival while I was studying in my 8th standard. That`s why I am in a haze about the picturisation of the song. I am not able to recollect the picturisation, But from that time itself my instinct identified it as my favourite song and I kept hearing this song through Radio stations.
sorry and regards
