“Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kyaa” (1963) is a movie starring Shammi Kapoor and B Saroja Devi. This movie apparently did not do well at the box office.
The movie did not have music by the usual musical pair of Hasrat Jaipuri/Shailendra and Shankar Jaikishan. Rather this movie had Shakeel Badayuni as the lyricist and Ravi as the music director. And they created some standout songs in this movie.
Here is a song from this movie that I may have heard in the past but only casually. Only when nahm sent me the lyrics of this song that I paid attention to this song.
This song is sung by Rafi and his voice shines through, as always. It has to be one of the more memorable melancholic songs in Hindi movies.
The video of the song shows Shammi Kapoor lip syncing the song. Some portion of the video seems to be missing and as a result, parts of the song are missing. Complete audio ink of the song is also provided to enable the readers to savour the entire song.

This Sahir, Ravi and Rafi number always hits me in the chest. Atul, your site with these memorable performances, along with the lyrics and historical perspective is the most value-able service to the Indian community. I am greatly indebted to you. Please keep up the good work.

As per your notes, this song is penned by Shakeel Badayuni, & not by Sahir Ludhianvi. Kindly confirm, and correct if true.

It is Shakeel Badayuni. It is the comments by some readers that have brought in Sahir Ludhianvi. My writeup only mentions Shakeel Badayuni.

Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Atul, thanks for “bringing out” this memorable song. It has become memorable because of Rafi Saheb’s “dard” and Sahir Saheb’s poignant and robust verses.
By 1966-67, this song was on most people’s lips and in their hearts and minds. The Communist “shair” in Sahir Saheb had done his share in moving people to a new awareness through his songs. He had already published his volumes of poetry including “Talkhiyaan” and “Parchaaiyaan”, and some poems found there were making their way into movies.
One evening in 1967, I saw Sahir Saheb standing outside a shopping center near Andheri Railway Station (West) in suburban Mumbai (then Bombay). He was puffing away at his cigarette sorrounded by two of his “chamchas”. He was already famous, and probably a millionaire (despite being a Communist!). But he remained humble and approachable all through his life, though he had his share of wordly problems (zindagi kyaa hai gham ka dariya hai). I made a quick “aadaab” which was returned by Sahir Saheb smilingly, and that gesture will always remain fresh in my memory!
