Gham e hasti se bas begaanaa hotaa

Till a few days ago, I was not aware that Shammi Kapoor had worked opposite Bina Rai in a movie and that he had worked in a movie with music by Roshan. After I came to know of the songs of “Wallah Kya Baat Hai” (1962) I realised that this movie starred Shammi Kapoor and Bina Rai and it had music by Roshan. Other actors of this movie were Nishi, K.N.Singh, Maruti, Tuntun, Abhi Bhattacharya, Mumtaz,Jankidass, Munshi Munaqqa, Rajan Kapoor etc. This movie was directed by Hari Walia.
Here is a song from “Wallah Kyaa Baat Hai” (1962). This song is sung by Rafi and it is picturised on Shammi Kapoor. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist of this song. I was not aware that Anand Bakshi has written a song in a Shammi Kapoor movie. Now I know better.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)
Gham-e-hasti se bas begaanaa hotaa
Khudaaya kaash main deewana hota
gham-e-hasti se bas begaanaa
chali aati qayaamat anjuman mein
chali aati qayaamat anjuman mein
gulon ko aag lag jaati chaman mein
alag baitaa
alag baitaa koi mastaana hota
aaa
Khudaayaa kaash main deewaana hota
gham-e-hasti se bas begaanaa
jo dekha hai suna hai zindagi mein
jo dekha hai suna hai zindagi mein
wo banke dard reh jaathaa na jee mein
fakat ek khwaab
fakat ek khwaab, ek afsaanaa hotaa
Khudaayaa kaash main deewaana hota
gham-e-hasti se bas begaanaa
usee deewangee mein bekhudi mein
usee deewaangee mein bekhudi mein
na khulti aankh saari zindagi mein
sadaa gardish mein
sadaa gardish mein ek paimaanaa hotha
Khudaayaa kaash main deewaana hota
gham-e-hasti se bas begaanaa hotaa
Khudaayaa kaash main deewanaa hotaa

That song took me right back to my school days, more precisely, early teens, when I loved these romantic songs! Those song writers are gone, those music directors are gone, and the appreciation of such songs is also gone! Those romantic heroes who sang these songs are gone, and the singer is also gone! Thanks, Atul, for keeping them all alive through your blog.
