“Zeenat” (1945) is a movie that is directed by Shaukat Hussain Rizvi. This movie had Noorjahaan, Zohrabai Ambalewaali, Cuckoo, Shashikala (then a child), Baby Khursheed (later known as Shyama) etc. In fact, this movie seems to be a movie with mainly female actors . : D All the eight songs of this movie have been sung only by female singers, and that includes an all female qawwaali (Aahen na bharin shiqwe na kiye ).
Here is a song from this movie which is sung by Noorjahaan. It is this song that reportedly earned Noorjahaan her sobriquet of “Mallika e Tarannum”.
The movie had two music directors, namely Meer Sahab and Hafiz Khan. This song is composed by Hafiz Khan.
As far as I am concerned, the real star of this song is the lyricist who has come up with some amazingly original thoughts in this song. I wonder who is the lyricist. I am unable to find his name and I request our knowledgeable readers to help unravel the mystery of the lyricist of this song.
PS-Now it has been informed by Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh that this song is written by Maharul Qadri.

A very beautiful song- only Great singer Noorjehan could render.
Brought back memories of the age when I was a school going boy , some 60 years ago !

Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Atul ji,
ZEENAT(1945),had two MDs, Mir Saheb and Hafiz khan.
There were two lyricists, Nakhshab Jarachavi and Maharul Kadri.
I find that one of the songs posted earlier has mentioned Qamar jalalabadi’s name as a Lyricist.
Please note that QJ did not write any songs for Zeenat.In fact in 1945 he has not written songs for any film.This fact is confirmed by Ms.Subhashini Jalalabadi,one of his daughters.
The above song is written by Maharul Kadri.
