“Watan” (1954) was directed by N Bhatt for Falcon Pictures. This movie had Trilok Kapoor, Nirupa Roy, Munawwar Sultana, Jayant, Gope, Madan Puri, Cuckoo, Surya Kumar etc in it.
There were six songs in this movie. Two songs from the movie has been covered in the past.
Here is the third song from “Watan” (1954) to appear in the blog. This rare song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. Shewan Rizvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Hafiz Khan.
Only the audio of this song is available. Assuming that Nirupa Roy was the leading lady of the movie, my guess is that this song (and other songs sung by Asha Bhonsle in th movie) were lip synced by Nirupa Roy. Nevertheless, I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.
Song-Taqdeer ka kehna hai ki.. roti hai to roya karey barbaad mohabbat (Watan)(1954) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Shewan Rizvi, MD-Hafiz Khan
Lyrics
Taqdeer ka kehna hai ki ??
ghar hi jalaa doongi ee ee
rehta hai jahaan pyaar
wahaan aag laga doongi
roti hai to roya kare barbaad mohabbat
duniya mein na hogi kabhi aabaad mohabbat
roti hai to roya karey barbaad mohabbat
pehle to muqaddar ne tujhe mera banaaya
phir mere hi haathon se tujhe qaid karaaya
dil rota hai ae ae ae ae
dil rota hai
aur karti hai fariyaad mohabbat
duniya mein na hogi kabhi aabaad mohabbat
roti hai to roya karey barbaad mohabbat
barbaad ye dil thhaame jigar dekh rahi hoon
dekha nahin jaata hai magar dekh rahi hoon
Allah kar r r r r
Allah kar is gham se tu aazaad muhabbat
duniya mein na hogi kabhi aabaad mohabbat
roti hai to roya karey barbaad mohabbat a a a
Dard e mohabbat dard e judaai

Time to Yippeee another film. Today’s film is ‘Humjoli’ – not the one from 1970, but the one from way back in 1946. This film has 10 songs listed in the Geet Kosh. Nine songs have already been showcased here on our blog. The last song for this film was posted in November last year. In that post, Atul ji has commented that the 10th song appears to be elusive, and is yet to be uploaded online. Today, as I checked for this song, I am unable to track it anywhere as yet. I could be wrong, as I have been earlier, maybe just limited by the way I searched for it. So I decided to upload this from my collection.

As regulars are aware, I am based at Izatnagar, Bareilly at present which happens to be located between Delhi and Lucknow. In fact, this place is equidistant from both these cities. This fact had been commented upon by several regulars. Our Lucknow based regular namely Mr Avadh Lal even commented that I needed to visit Lucknow and meet the Lucknow based music lovers.

It’s been a while since we had a song in this voice. A voice which momentarily transforms us to another world. A voice so gentle and sweet that we invariably pause, ponder and are awestruck by the rendering. The total numbers are in three digits only. The genres of songs are also very restricted. But whatever is available will be cherished forever since the class of singing was always uncompromising.

Nightingale Noorjehan – 10
—————————–
After completing all Noorjehan’s songs from 1946 ‘Dil’, I march forward (In fact backward) to another block-buster musical film of the same year i.e. Anmol Ghadi. All her songs are covered on our blog. Now comes 1945. There were four films of our heroine during that year. There were four songs from 1945 film Bhaijaan, attributed to Noorjehan, but all except ‘chupke se dil mein …’ had Zeenat Begam’s voice on Columbia Records, according to HFGK. So, totally disappointed at not getting any Noorjehan’s song from that film, I look for the remaining three films of 1945.

Nightingale Noorjehaan – 2

I am trying to complete Noorjehan’s songs on this blog. The current film I am dealing with is ‘Hamjoli’. Since I have all her songs in MP3 form, I was searching readymade clips on internet – specially YouTube. Almost all the songs of ‘Hamjoli’ I found there and most of them are uploaded there by Vidur Suri. I had seen that name in comments of our blog and I contacted him, thinking that he might be a person if not in my age group but a person above 50 or 60. Imagine my shocking (but pleasant) surprise, when I came to know that he is a lad of just 17 years! I salute him for taking interest in rare songs of half a century old films. Most of the ‘ Hamjoli’ songs that I propose to include on this blog are available online courtsey of Vidur Suri.

Nightingale Noorjehaan – 1
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
After a long long time I am trying to plunge again in Atul’s wonderful Blog. This presentation, is my sixtieth contribution.
I am going to track Noorjehan songs from the latest to the earliest and will try to complete, as far as possible, her wonderful contributions to Hindi Film Music. Her films of 1947 in our motherland, before she left for Pakistan were ‘Jugnu’ and ‘Mirza Sahiba’. All songs with her voice in these films are covered in this Blog. So I come to the year 1946. There were three films viz, ‘Hamjoli’, ‘Dil’ and ‘Anmol Ghadi’. Today I will start with ‘Hamjoli’.
