Mera yaar banaa hai dulhaa

There are several well known songs that I think have already been discussed in the blog when in reality they are as yet unrepresented in the blog.
I became aware of one such “missing from the blog” genre of song when I received its lyrics from nahm. This is an extremely popular wedding song. In fact, it is one of those songs that have become a must play song in Indian weddings for the last half a century.
There are different kinds of wedding songs in Hindi movies that can be pit under different categories. One is the bride side wedding song where the sahelis of bride gather around the bride and sing songs. Then there are groom side wedding songs where the male friends and acquaintances of the groom gather around the groom and sing songs.
Most iconic groom side wedding songs in Hindi movies were created in 1960s and 1970s and almost all of them were composed by Ravi- the creator of iconic songs on any subjects. He in fact is also the creator of the most well known “bride’s father” side bidaai song as well.
The song under discussion is one of the earlist groom side wedding song created by Ravi. This song is sung by Rafi and it is picturised on Johny Walker who plays a friend of the would be groom (Guru Dutt). Johny Walker sings this song in the all male gathering assembled around the groom.
The lyrics of the song, which have gone on to become part of Indian day to day life by now, is written by Shakeel Badayuni.
Here is this out and out iconic song from “Chaudhvin Ka Chand” (1960. This movie was a Guru Dutt production and it was directed by M Sadiq. This
movie had actors like Rehman, Guru Dutt, Waheeda Rehman, Minoo Mumtaz, Mumtaz Begum, Pravin Paul, Naazi, Zebunissa, Uma Devi, Lata Sinha, Balam, Johnny Walker etc in it.
This is the seventh iconic song from this movie to appear in this blog. How one movie can have so many great songs is something that is difficult to even comprehend today. And this was just a rule rather than the exception those days, when every movie those days tended to have several great songs each. Those were the days of enormous musical riches in Hindi movies.

Lyrics(Provided by nahm)
Meraa yaar banaa hai dulhaa
aur phool khilen hain dil ke
arrey meri bhi shaadi ho jaaye
duaa karo sab mil ke
meraa yaar banaa hai dulhaa
aur phool khilen hain dil ke
arrey meri bhi shaadi ho jaaye
duaa karo sab mil ke
aaj ki khushiyaan dekh ke
mera dil bhi le angdaayi
mere bhi ghar ho dhoom dhadakka
aur baje shehnaayi
aaj ki khushiyaan dekh ke
mera dil bhi le angdaayi
mere bhi ghar ho dhoom dhadakka
aur baje shehnaayi
main bhi sehra baandh ke baithhoon
beech bhari mehfil ke
meraa yaar banaa hai dulhaa
aur phool khilen hain dil ke
arrey meri bhi shaadi ho jaaye
duaa karo sab mil ke
bhai
aye mere maalik
mere daata
mere paalanhaara
yaar ko tu ne dulhan de di
reh gayaa main hi kunwaara
aye mere maalik
mere daata
mere paalanhaara
yaar ko tu ne dulhan de di
reh gayaa main hi kunwaara
mujh ko bhi meri
bulbul de de
haay
main bhi hansoo khil khil ke
meraa yaar banaa hai dulhaa
aur phool khilen hain dil ke
arrey meri bhi shaadi ho jaaye
duaa karo sab mil ke
aye mere hamdam
rahe hamesha
teri salaamat jodi
aaj tere sehre ne bhaiyya
mujh pe qayaamat todi
aye mere hamdam
rahe hamesha
teri salaamat jodi
aaj tere sehre ne bhaiyya
mujh pe qayaamat todi
meri bhi aankhon mein jaage
ho o o o
khwab nayi manzil ke
meraa yaar banaa hai dulhaa
aur phool khilen hai dil ke
arrey meri bhi shaadi ho jaaye
duaa karo sab mil ke
meraa yaar banaa hai dulhaa
aur phool khilen hai dil ke
arrey meri bhi shaadi ho jaaye
duaa karo sab mil ke
meraa yaar banaa hai dulhaa
aur phool khilen hai dil ke
arrey meri bhi shaadi ho jaaye
duaa karo sab mil ke
