Very little information is available about the movie “Zamaana” (1938). This movie was produced by Krishn M and directed by Raam Daryani and it had actors like Ameena, Bansi Karnataki, Gope,Gulab, Hansa Wadkar,Jeewan, Majid, Nazir, Padma Devi, Vasant etc.
This movie had a few songs sung by Amirjan. She later changed her name and was known as Amirbai Karnataki.
One of the songs that she sang in this movie was later reused as a radio song in “Ghar Ki Izzat”. This radio song (Ae dard zaraa dam le )is already posted in this blog.
Here is another song from “Zamaana” (1938). This song is also sung by Amirbai Karnataki. D N Madhok is the lyricist. Music is composed by Sundar Das. I am not aware about how and on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this matter.

Atul ji and Arun ji,
This song was earlier used in the film ‘Dukhiyaari’ (1937) which was written by Gourishankar ‘Akhtar’ and set to music by Anil Biswas. I have heard the mp3 clip of this song of ‘Dukhiyaari’ (1937) uploaded on Prof. Surjit Singh’s Website by Shir Giridharilal ji Vishwakarma. The tune, the lyrics and the singers of both the songs are the same.
I feel that credit for this song of Zamaanaa (1938) should go to ‘Gourishankar ‘Akhtar’ and Anil Biswas and not to D N Madhok and Sundardas Bhatia.

Atul ji,
ZAMANA(1938),a Krishin Movietone film,directed by Ram Daryani,had music by Sunderdas(Dekha Jayega,Master Man,Saaqi,Idd ka chand,Rajkumari,Shokh Dilruba etc) and the lyrics were by DNMadhok.
The cast was Jeevan(known that time only as O.K.Dhar or Dhar Kashmiri) and Padmadevi in the lead,supported by Nazir,Gope,Gulab,Majeed,Bansi karnataki,Amina,Vasant,Hansa Wadkar(Marathi Heroine-on whose life,a full lenghth feature film ‘Sangatey Aika’,was produced in the 70s,Jayashri Gadkar doing her role) etc.
Like one song,Aye Dard jaraa dum ley,was used in Ghar ki Ijjat later,similarly,this film-Zamana-had used one song,Sotey mein hamse mila hai,sung by Pratimadevi,originally from the film Dukhiyari(1937).
