In this blog we take pride in being topical, in the sense that we discuss topical songs on important days, viz national days, festivals, important birth and death anniversaries etc. Thus we are always raedy with topical songs for independence day, republic day,and festivals like holi, deepawali and raakhi. We also have special songs on the occasions of birth and death anniversary of important artists.
There is one important festival that falls today and which almost escaped the attention of our mainly all male team of contributors, mainly because it is a festival of women. It is the festival of Karva Chauth where women fast for the well being of their husbands and then break fast in evening as the moon rises in the sky.
To be fair, the occasion had not escaped the attention of Prakashchandra jee. He had dutifully sent me the lyrics of two songs mentioning that they were Karvachauth songs. It is just that I did not know when this festival of karvachauth fell on. I can be absent minded most of the times, and I certainly was on this occasion.
It is still 15th of october, and so technically the karvachauth is still on as the moon has not yet risen, as I have been assured by Sudhir jee (yes, he too has been on the bandwagon of belated realisers of this festival) 🙂
Better in the 11th hour than late. So here is a karwa chauth song from “Sharda” (1981). The song is picturised on several women, including Rameshwari, who are observing karwa chauth. Here is this archtypical karwa chauth song which is sung by Lata and chorus and it is picturised on Rameshwari, Dina Pathak, and several other women dressed predominanntly in red, which is the dress code for married women on such occasions. 🙂
