Kiya hai dilruba pyaar bhi kabhi

During late 1950s, Shashdhar Mukherji and Agha Kashmiri were discussing the next movie of Fimalaya in the formers residence. Shashdhar Mukherji wanted to sign up Shammi Kapoor, but Agha Hashra Kashmiri pointed at the youngster arriving at the home and told Shashdhar Mukherji-“Here is the hero of your movie”. That younster of none other than Joy Mukherji, Shashdhar Mukherji’s son. Shashdhar Mukherji was skeptical but he entrusted the job of grooming Joy Mukherji as a hero on Kashmiri. The movie called “Love in Shimla” (1960) was shot and the movie succeeded at the box office.
Joy Mukherji, easily the most successful Shammi Kapoor clone of 1960s had a career that was quite similar to Shammi Kapoor’s career in 1960s. Like Shammi Kapoor, he too was at his peak in 1960s before his career declined as the decade ended. During 1960s, he appeared in movies with storylines similar to Shammi Kapoor’s movies. This, combined with similar co stars and similar music teams means that Joy Mukherji movies were often indistinguishable from Shammi Kapoor movies. For instance, “Love in Tokyo” (1966), starring Joy Mukherji and Asha Parekh was as big a hit as any Shammi Kapoor movies and this movie was as big a favourite of DD during sundays of 1980s as Shammi Kapoor movies.
“Love in Simla” (1960) was a hit movie and the music of this movie played a big part in the success of this movie. AS many as five songs from this movie have already been discussed in the past. Here is the sixth song from the movie.
This song is an Asha Bhonsle Rafi duet. The song is picturised on Sadhana and Joy Mukherji as a stage performance song which is watched by a housefull gathering.
Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Iqbal Qureshi.
Joy Mukerji breathed his last today (9th march 2012) at Mumbai at the age of 73. Here is this song as a tribute to this charismatic hero of the 1960s.

Sad news that Joy Mukherjee is no more. What a coincidence that he breathed last around 9:30am IST, and just same time I was watching a show with his song, aa zara aa zara aa……(Love In Tokyo) on TV. May his soul rest in peace.

Not a great actor, but his name says it all. He brought so much JOY to his viewers with his joie de vivre and handsome looks. Love in Shimla and Love in Tokyo are my all-time favorites. I can watch them anytime.

By mistake instead of mentioning Sadhana you have mentioned Asha Parekh. Hats off to Iqbal Qureshi..one of the most uncelebrated MD; if I may say so.
What’s happening? After Ravi, now Joy Mukherjee. Is it going to be a panchak? God forbid.
