This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.
This song, I remember from many years ago, having heard it on the radio and then in collections of Talat Mehmood. Just browsing through the YouTube, I discovered this song again after a long time, and then an added bonus too. This song is also sung by Asha Bhosle in the same film.
The film is ‘Chaar Chaand’ from 1953. The film is a production by Fine Arts Films, Bombay. It is produced by FM Khan, and directed by A Karim. The star cast of this film comprises of Shyama, Suresh, Bhagwan, Cuckoo, Altaf, Majnoon, Maqbool, Agha Miraaj, Amir Banu, Rani Kapoor, CL Shah, Ghulam Rasool, Deepmala and Rajeena etc. The film has two music directors listed, Nashaad and K Manohar. This song is composed by Nashaad. Similarly, there are two lyricists identified – Shewan Rizvi and A Karim. And this song is penned by A Karim.
The lyrics of both the Talat and Asha versions are exactly the same. Only the audios of this song are available, and I would request other readers to please help add more information about this film and this song.
A very soulful creation of a sad heart, the rendering by both Talat Saab and Asha ji touches a delicate nerve in the heart. A wonderful sentimental favorite, for the hearts that love an emotional sound of sadness.
hai ye wohi aasmaan, aur hai wo hi zameen
par meri taqdeer ka ab wo zamaanaa nahin
ab wo zamaanaa nahin
The heavens, have remained the same
And this land, it is unchanged
And yet, my destiny
Its time is past
And its prime has subsided
ab yehi kehtaa hai dil, door kahin jaa baso
us jagah koi jahaan apna paraayaa na ho
The heart, now it implores
Urges to go to a far land
And live in a place
Where no friends would be
Ere would be no foes
(just quiet strangers all, none else)
jin ka mera saath thhaa, chhod gaye raah mein
kaise bulaa’un unhen dard nahin aah mein
One who was once a companion
(of this life’s pathways)
Left me stranded midway
I am unable to call back
Maybe not enough anguish in my pleadings
sang thhe hum tum wo din, laaun kahaan se bhalaa
bichhde huye phir milen, ab to yehi hai duaa
For once we were together
Those times will not return anymore
The heart just prays now
For the estranged hearts
To maybe meet once again

Lyrics
hai ye wohi aasmaaaan
hai ye wohi aasmaan
aur hai wo hi zameen
par meri taqdeer ka
ab wo zamaanaa nahin
ab wo zamaanaa nahin
hai ye wohi aasmaan
aur hai wo hi zameen
par meri taqdeer ka
ab wo zamaanaa nahin
ab wo zamaanaa nahin
ab yehi kehtaa hai dil
door kahin jaa baso
door kahin jaa baso
us jagah koi jahaan
apna paraayaa na ho
apna paraayaa na ho
hai ye wohi aasmaan
aur hai wo hi zameen
par meri taqdeer ka
ab wo zamaanaa nahin
ab wo zamaanaa nahin
jin ka mera saath thhaa
chhod gaye raah mein
ae ae
chhod gaye raah mein
kaise bulaa’un unhen
dard nahin aah mein
dard nahin aah mein
hai ye wohi aasmaan
aur hai wo hi zameen
par meri taqdeer ka
ab wo zamaanaa nahin
ab wo zamaanaa nahin
sang thhe hum tum wo din
laaun kahaan se bhalaa
aa aa
laaun kahaan se bhalaa
bichhde huye phir milen
ab to yehi hai duaa
ab to yehi hai duaa
hai ye wohi aasmaan
aur hai wo hi zameen
par meri taqdeer ka
ab wo zamaanaa nahin
ab wo zamaanaa nahin
hai ye wohi aasmaaaan
aa aa aa
