“Mangu” was a Sheikh Mukhtar Production movie. It was directed by M A Ansari. Starcast of the movie had Sheikh Mukhtar, Nigar Sultana, Aroon, Mukri, Ansari, Sheila Ramani etc.
Few people remember this movie, but the music of this movie deserve to be known much better among music lovers. This movie was one of the first movies of O P Nayyar as a music director. Here one finds some stunning compositions which bear little resemblence to subsequent O P Nayyar compositions of coming years.
Here is a superb Asha Bhonsle solo from “Mangu” (1954). This song is written by Majrooh Sultanpuri.
Only the audio of this song is available but it seems reasonable clear that the song was picturised on Nigar Sultana.

Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Atul ji,
MANGU-1954 ,though a film of the 50s,has become an obscure film as no prints of this film are available anywhere now.It was one of the many films,the prints of which were taken by Sh.Mukhtar when he ran away to Pakistan to avoid his creditors in India.But in Pakistan also this film is not traceable.
Being a fan of Sh Makhtar,I had seen this film.There was yet another film-‘Mangu Dada’-1970,which was also a Sh.Mu film but it was not a remake of Mangu,as many people thought.
Mangu was a Sh.Mukhtar Film prodn.,directed by N.A.Ansari,who as usual had also acted as the Villain in this film.
There were 2 music Directors.Mohd.Shafi had recorded 3 songs,when he was unceremoniously removed to induct O.P.Nayyar,who recorded the balance 4 songs of this film.
Mohd.Shafi had introduced SUMAN KALYANPUR in this film and she sang her FIRST hindi film song,’ koi pukare dheere se tuze “.
O.P.Nayyar was in financial difficulties in these days due to non-payment from Guru Dutt and hence to survive,he snatched this film from mohd.Shafi and another film from Roshan.This caused a great uproar in the industry.Earlier,I have already given all the details of this episode in this blog.
The story of Mangu was as usual,nothing very new.Dr.Shorey(N.A.Ansari) is a wicked person who wants to rule the world and is making a drug for this purpose.To get finance for this project,he kills his uncle and kidnaps his niece,Renu,to kill her,so that all the wealth will be his.However,Renu escapes and is found by Mangu,who is a kind person.Renu,unable to give her details,,is protected by Mangu(Sh.Mu).
Priti(Sheila Ramani,an UK returned cousin of Renu comes to Bombay.Learning about Renu,she suspects Dr.Shorey and hears all nhis secret plans to kill Renu.Priti approaches Mangu,but Renu is kidnapped befor that.
Priti and Mangu together foil all the attempts of Dr.Shorey,collect proof against him and Flora(Nigar Sultana),his assistant and his moll and hand them over to the Police.
